Re: Ode To The 07
The problem with Corelon is they're all different. If the seller posts a stock picture the end product is a mystery until you get it and the back will be very different from the front.

So true...and the same can be said for stock photos of knives with stag handles as well. You roll the dice and pray you like the knife you receive.jerryd6818 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 25, 2020 6:41 pm The problem with Corelon is they're all different. MTTP: 2017-2019
With so many handle variations becoming available it would seem only logical to add some new pattern numbers to identify the new materials being incorporated. That did happen with Corelon, which was assigned the number "9", and Kirinite, "10". But, one thing I always found somewhat perplexing is the use of "6" to denote both bone as well as some synthetic material...especially since "3" and "4" are also used for synthetics. I mean, what's the point, really, of having the exact same number assigned to multiple handle materials of vastly differing characteristics especially when there are already other numbers being used for a particular material? (Even more perplexing is how OCD Monkey manages to maintain any semblance of sanity in the midst of such a random and chaotic numbering system. )
Here's an example of two 07s with different handle materials (one natural, one synthetic) but with the same handle material identifier ("6") in the pattern number.
2017 6207 Natural Jigged Bone with Red enameled shield
2018 6207 White Jigged Delrin (SparXX) with Black 'sparkle' shield
And here's another Mini Trapper of the same color but with different jigging, shield and blade configuration but the same pattern number (at least they added a "W" in the pattern number to denote the Wharncliffe secondary blade).
2019 6207W Smooth Natural Bone with bomb shield

MTTP: End of Decade 2019
An endless variety of trim options including new handle materials, colors and jigging styles seems to be what Case was aiming for in the 20-teens. 2019 also brought the most new 07Ws releases since the early 2000s.
2019 6207W Burnt Purple Tribal Jigged Bone no shield, XX bolster stamp

After 50 years of the Dot dating system which began in 1970 and incorporated a combination of dots and "X"s since 2000, Case went back to using just dots on the tang stamp in 2020. The new decade stamp used two rows of dots, 5 above the Case logo and 5 below,

My Burnt Gray is just a little different as are so many in a run of a particular handle color. I think it has a little more character.
And my Burnt Purple Bone Tribal is an 07W.

Not for me Gus. I prefer the two blade editions. I'm not a fan of Trappers but that Wharncliffe blade, along with that gorgeous toasted Stag, snagged me.

Re: Ode To The 07
Thanks guys. The Mini-T Monkey seems to go through phases where he gets fixated on certain knives. Apparently, my current obsession is Appaloosa Bone, but my longest running obsession is Stag (which I don't anticipate ever growing tired of or having enough of).
I'm not sure what other collectors find so special about the blue scroll etching, but for some reason the knives that have it always seem to sell at a premium (red scroll even more so). I finally managed to get a Mini-T with the blue scroll on the blade for my collection...but truth be told, I got it for the stag more than because it has the blue scroll blade etch.
I am curious about the initials (BW & KP) "hidden" in the etch. Anyone happen to know to whom (or to what) they refer? Are they the initials of the designers of the scroll, perhaps? Very unusual.

I'm with ya ~Q~. I have a couple (not Mini-Ts) that I bought in spite of the blade etch. IMO it adds nothing to the knife. Different strokes for different folks.

Thanks JP. I may be getting hooked on those cigar bands but the passion feels like it may be waning (I hope).
The small Cigar Band Saddle Horn that's coming (should be here tomorrow/Thursday at the latest) may have thrown water on the fire. Only time will tell.

Re: Ode To The 07
jerryd, I'm still not a big fan of the cigar band...yet...but, I have been eyeing the "Regal Stag" model (which has a cigar band on stag covers), and knowing The Monkey, it's just a matter of time before I cave in and get one (since it is stag, after all). And as much as I try to resist, I admit that I am beginning to hear the siren song of Kirinite more and more as well. Your Red Pearl 10207 is certainly not making my resistance any easier; it's definitely a very classy 07. Nice score.
