Curiously thinking on this 5488

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Curiously thinking on this 5488

Post by XxTestedxX »

Here is a 5488 which appears to be xx era.

After having a bad run with a USA era 88 being swapped with xx blades, I always watch these closely..

I made some observations, tho not conclusive.. Still find odd, and not normal.

I'm not saying it's been messed with, just looking to see if any others noticed or have an opinion.

Items worth mentioning

-USA fat S shield (not unheard of)
-USA pin placement? It appears (could be a transition period?)
-USA era stag (again, not conclusive)
-silver center pin, left and right pins are brass (my eyes believe so anyways)

Any other thought or opinions?

Doesn't look like USA pin placement to me in looks like 10 dot 1970 pin placement. Definitely not the right shield for a XX 40-64 knife. Stag is probably 1970 as well although the stag does vary in my experience,
