Case Rough black collection 5/4/17

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Case Rough black collection 5/4/17

Post by XxTestedxX »

Here is my current line up, the collection is growing, even now with a 6220 on the way :)

28 total knives
12 tested
1 coin toss rough black (you might not call it rough) lol 63045 LP, to beautiful to leave it out

If anyone in the group has any knives I'm missing, that fits requirement, MINT/Near mint/ and or cleaned properly (not overdone or horrendous)

1 day I might actually create a list, any in here you want to know more about? Any you've never seen before?

Thanks for looking

-Zach

not 1 knife here is an exact duplicate, either the era/blade configuration is different, so yes.. if I want them all, I have a ton of work to do. patterns I'm missing are the priority.

a few off the top I know I need

6269 lil congress
62055 cigar
6205R (elusive, but I think I found one)
6345
6247J
6275
and tons more I'm sure.

if anyone has an high dollar rough black, I can also offer high dollar trades, for instance, id likely trade my 6247J tested for the rough black equivalent, same as my jigged black 63045LP.

That's pretty cool Zack. Your going to have to find a big floor model display case to put them in. Its been interesting to watch your collection grow.

Jerry, I don't see the cigar for sale anymore

I know where a 2 blade tested model is, just pricey

Yes, the 3 blade 055 in rough black is pretty rare. Yep, amazing how a synthetic handle commands such prices.

Zach, for your reference, here is a picture of a Case Tested XX 06245 1/2 LP in rough black (NFS / NFT - I am keeping it). It has a few spots, but I don't think it has been buffed. If you happen to find a 3 blade rough black 45 I would love to see it.

Nice work in finding your group of Rough Black knives. It's a treat to see them all in one place.

Congrats Zach on an already great collection, and on finding a collecting niche likely to keep you busy for a while.

Great line up Zach. The rough black period has always been rather fascinating to me. I have always felt that there was a close correlation between rough black handled knives and the changing of tang stamps from tested xx to xx, though as far as I have seen no one knows exactly when that occurred. Thanks for showing.

Thanks for the words and encouragement, finding more is getting tough, and often finding them affordable is hard itself lol. I do have a 6220 that will be in next week, expecting it to be very nice!

Mike,
I've been admiring your rough black collection for a month or so when it dawned on me I have a rough black, somewhere ::idea:: , but then I realized what eras your beautiful collection is from. For a few minutes I thought I had something that you hadn't shown, a 63046 but with a 2010 stamp.
