Case Rogers Bone

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Case Rogers Bone

Post by btrwtr »

Case knives are unique in that with the older collectible knives slight variations can mean big differences in value. The price of a Case XX era knife of the same pattern can differ greatly depending on blade grind, bone jigging and color of bone or the configuration and type of blades.

Although I certainly don't consider myself a "Case knife man" I am always on the lookout for older and harder to find variations of Case knife patterns.

One of the things I look for is older Case knives with Rogers bone handles. They are far less common than what would be considered standard color and jigging Case bone.

Here are a few Case XX knives that have Rogers bone handles.

Patterns included from top to bottom in first picture are:
Case XX 06244
Case XX 6232
Case XX 06247PE
Case XX Muskrat
Case XX 61048
Case XX 6565SAB
Case XX 6265SAB

If you are unfamiliar with knives of this type take a look at the color and texture of the bone as compared to what is more standard on Case knives. These knives are all what I would call Rogers red bone. Earlier variations of Rogers bone would have the same jigging but be brown or tan in color.

If you have some older Case knives in Rogers bone please share them here.

Thanks for looking.

Lyle I wish I had that brown Rogers 6380 as well. Beautiful knife!

I'd say that 6347 definitely qualifies for Rogers bone!

Tom that knife is getting back there a bit. Nice bone!

MrB that's a good looking 65. You must be selling to the wrong clientele if they aren't paying any more for handles like that.

Ken, that Tri-fold is a beauty.

And a couple more nice early Rogers from Larry.

Tom, you can't get much higher on the shelf than an old 88 like that!

Nice examples from all.

Gorgeous bone and knife Ken. I've asked before ,but I'll see if anyone again may have a reason why the pile side on most knives seems more worn, almost always, than the mark side?

I just had an epiphany,I bet it has something to do with buffing the shield side?

Larry ,someone correlated my farmers jack collection to your Case, which I took as quite a compliment.

Tom,again,Wayne said it all.And as Larry said, you are quite the hunter, see if you can corner me a couple of those endangered wild farmers jacks. I grin ::tu:: ::tu::

Ken, that knife of yours is something special. You just don't see those knives out there.

Lyle and Larry, thanks for the nice comments. I don't think either of you need my help as far as finding great knives.. You both seem to have pretty sharp hunting instincts indeed!!!! Lol ::tu::

Here are some old Case knives with early Roger's bone. I threw in a stag knife to show the similarity between the stag and the older Roger's bone. Kind of shows where the term "bone stag" came from:

msteele6, that is an excellent example of the different types of Early Rogers and some great knives to boot ::tu::

Her is a 63039 CASE BRADFORD small sowbelly in Rogers Bone that I got from our own "cbfd". Since several folks here have asked where I found the old W R Case 88, well that one came from Bill as well! ::tu::
