Case & Case related knives over 100 years old

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Thanks Larry & Ken,
I wouldn’t really call this one red especially on the front handle. Years ago I had a 6539 that had regular Winterbottom on the front and regular bone on the pile side. So my opinion is, who knows? All of the other WRCase knives I have had that had Winterbottom handles were red
Winterbottom. So I would say yes in the great majority of cases.

Thanks,
Tom

Tom, another great addition to your old Case collection. ::tu:: ::tu:: It has the hallmarks of an authentic WR era knife as far as I know such as the blank bomb shield, the extra long nail nick, pronounced swedge, the WR stamp looks good, and it is common for a WR knife to have a pattern number. Given all this and the fact that it might be a SFO then the undocumented pattern number wouldn’t be a big concern to me especially because it matches so closely to the 11 pattern.

I have seen what I would call brown winterbottom bone on WR knives before. Greg Smith has a nice 6393P with those handles posted here on AAPK.

Find a couple of Brown Winterbottom W R Case & Sons in my collection.
A 6231 3/4 and a 63039.

So I guess they are not all red, lol.

Thanks for looking ::tu::

Thanks Larry and Roger, I appreciate the comments.

Here is a Thomas Turner & Co Red Stag or Bone Jack knife . These knife were imported in the late 1800's for Friedmann & Lauterjung. JBF Champlin, who married W R Case's sister, was the representative for Friedmann & Lauterjung. This knife is 4 1/8" closed and will literally take your finger off if you get it in the way closing this knife. This knife remarkably has some of the original finish left on the blade and flawless handles. I was glad to secure it.

Thanks for looking ::tu::

Great knife Jerry, thanks for posting it. As Roger mentioned in another thread, I have written a book on Case knives and related knives before 1920 that is available to ship now. I have several for $30.00 shipped, PayPal, mo, or checks. Roger, aka Peanut740 wrote the foreword for the book.
It is also available on Amazon and Barnes & nobles but I have plenty available for immediate shipping. Just PM me if you want to pick one up.
The title of the book is:
Old Knives, XX and More

Subtitle: Case & Case Related Knives before 1920

It has a price guide for the old Case knives and also history on the Case related companies and how Case Knives got their start plus info on shows and networking.

Thanks for your interest.

These knives are really great, what a collection. I have an old W R Case & Sons penknife with this type of shield on it and was wondering if it was legit. The picture of your old knives helped to confirm to me that it is. Thanks.
