Case & Case related knives over 100 years old

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

These pictures show a Case Bros Springville 94 large cigar pattern that is 4 1/4 inches closed. Both blades are marked. As described in earlier posts in the thread the Springville mark is rare because Case Bros made knives in Springville for only 2 years during 1913 and 1914 and then closed down.

I believe the handles are American Walnut and would be grateful for either confirmation or correction. I think the pattern number is 06294, but it could be 01294 where the "1" indicates walnut. I have some other old wood handled Case knives with the pattern number stamped where the handle designating number in the pattern number is a "6" on some knives and a "2" on others. A "6" normally means bone and a "2" normally means slick black handles. I would also be grateful for any insights / opinions on the pattern number.

This was a working knife as evidenced by the sharpening, dings and other wear and tear. It still has its blade snap.

Nice looking knives, Greg and Jerry ::tu:: ::tu::
Jerry I would probably go with the 1 handle number on that knife, seems more accurate to me than 2 or 6. I would go with the 01294 for the pattern number also. May or may not be correct but that is what I would call it. Not going to find any Case Bros knife with a pattern number stamped.

Rare stamp and interesting knives Jerry. I would have guessed the pattern to be 01294, given the handles appear to be walnut. But I too have noticed the same anomalies.

For example it's always been a mystery to me why the Case Knife-Ax combo sets having walnut handles are pattern numbered 261 instead of 161. ::shrug:: These sets first appeared around 1935 if I'm not mistaken. When I recently asked Case why the walnut handled sets weren't numbered 161, they replied it was a mystery to them also. They had been curious about it too but when they researched the available records they could not find anything to explain it.
