Do YOU have a CASE XX knife in YOUR pocket today?????

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Thanks, fellas. I dunno, doglegg, I've got some ugly in my accumulation (and sometimes I carry 'em too).

Whether this 64052 I toted today counts as "ugly" might be in the eye of the beholder... ::shrug::

Mr Porter, those are some scales I have never seen before. I'm sure they are custom aren't they. Did you do it? ::tu::

The gray ones on the bottom knife. Am I showing my ignorance? Does the red one have custom scales as well? ::shrug::

Sorry dogg, its not you. I read my post after I posted it and I thought to myself "I know he's seen an old pocket worn red before" and the reason I got the other one was because I had never seen that kind of scales. I have seen lots of flat with scroll work but no metal jigging like that. I'll add a couple close -ups of the numbers, I will say that it's a tight and solid little knife and if I'm not mistaken it's a 65-69 no dots under the USA. Did they make customs then? I'm gonna have to get me one of Steve's books. My picture quality makes me want to whirl this ipad like an old broke shingle, anyhow it's the letter A overtop of M279SS.

Case made these IIRC sometime around the late 1970s - there should be a couple of dots under there somewhere. Those handles were called "bark" (as in tree, not dog  ). There was a version that had a pen secondary blade and one with a file, maybe one had scissors, and they were stamped with an A, B, C, or D but I can't remember why. ::shrug:: Maybe handle colors - seems like some were silver like yours and others were gold tinted? Also seems like there were only maybe a couple hundred of each version made.

I know - my memory leaves a lot to be desired. Maybe Steve or someone that actually has records or catalogs, or a better memory, will straighten me out. ::dang::

I believe there are probably a couple dots or so obscured by the scales themselves. Don't think that knife was in production before the late 70s. That is one of the wildest metalwork jobs I've seen on an M279 and I used to have one with some fairly ornate scrollwork on brass done by a really high-end gunsmith/etcher. It seems to take one of those plain-jane M279s with the stainless slabs and makes it memorable. Could that be Case's work? Likely Steve is one of the few to know.

Had a couple Cases in my shorts today as well. Middle-aged sawcut bones under a Parkerized take on "Rogers bone" ca. the late 80s.

I have to think that this was Case's idea behind the "pocket worn" series. NOTE : THE ORIGINAL POCKET WORN
