what is the rarest case knife you have??

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

This ROBINSON KNIFE CO, SPRINGVILLE, NY is related to CASE. CASE BROS. was in Springville from 1912-1915. W.R.Case and ROBINSON were a joint venture there from 1927 till 1940 (?) when ROBINSON bought out CASE. They're still in business in Buffalo. Neat little connection. J.O'.

This is a great thread, and I really enjoy perusing it, so I guess it's my turn to show my rarest. The first knife is a Standard Knife Company jack (Dean and Elliot Case 1901- 1903). I don't think I'm ever going to own a rarer knife. The 2nd and 3rd knives pictured are a Case Brothers Little Valley 04 jack (I think) and an 027 (I think) W.R. Case & Sons sleeveboard pen.

buckshot22 wrote: Thu Feb 10, 2022 6:08 pm Quick question for the group about the 6375 I posted yesterday. The pins, bolsters and liners are not brass. I know brass was not used during WWII, but I think this knife was likely manufactured in the early Tested era because of the circle C on the shield. Was it normal for early Case Tested knives to NOT use brass?
The bolsters are nickel silver, the liners and pins are also nickel silver.

During WWII Case often used steel for bolsters, liners, and pins - but that would be easy to tell due to patina or testing with a magnet.

I have a weakness for both swell-centers and gunstocks, so when I saw this I needed to have it. It’s a rare one also. W.R. Case & Sons 6227 LP, double-reverse gunstock pen with nice Rogers bone covers. Has some spotting/pitting but doesn’t appear to have ever been re-sharpened. ::shrug::

Cool find, Ken. Didn't even know there was a Case pattern like this out there. ::nod::👍

Ken, That's a great old knife. Levine calls it a "sway back" pen. Amazing condition for it's age. ::tu:: J.O'.

I was admiring your knife earlier and thinking that would be a great deer knife. ::nod::
What is the closed length of this fine specimen? I noticed 1967redriders comment about it being a "full sized" saddlehorn, are there a couple of sizes like the Sodbuster?

The knife measures at 4 5/8 inchs closed. I don't think the spey is oversized, that's just how they where made back in the day. I believe Case made a smaller version recently but not sure in the Tested Era. Thanks for the comments guys. Mike
