1 of 500 dark red bine

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

1 of 500 dark red bine

Post by Wmay5 »

Hello, my neighbor has a complete display box with paperwork that is in mint condition. Her husband passed away and she is getting ready to move into assisted living and I have been helping her liquidate items. However, I have no idea how much an item like this might be worth. If anyone can help, it would be much appreciated. Thanks

Each and every Case knife is marked with a date code that signifies the year of manufacture. That code is on the blade tang . See this topic to learn how to read the code.

Ok ,so checking out the link you sent me, it appears to have been made in 1991. So it is a 1 of 500 set of dark red bone. Set #71.

I'm far from an expert on Case knives or their current values, but here's a link to an ongoing ebay auction where a similar set is selling. It may give you at least some idea what your set might bring.

I believe that auction is the one I listed earlier in this thread. 661 was what that one collection brought. It really depends on who the seller is. The big eBay people like SMKW and Sportcolbs and Silverladdie would get a lot more for that collection than a newbie on eBay. What they would get could be a a few hundred dollars more than someone new.
Personally if you can get 450 out of that collection I think you would be doing well. It’s harder to move an entire collection of knives like this than one at a time. I have sold collections like this and didn’t get near as much I as thought I would. I sold a Case Canoe collection w/ matching serial numbers and had to lower my price 5 times to get them sold and ended up only getting 1/3 what I initially priced them at. Ebay selling is not an exact science.
That’s my two cents on this.
