5 1/2" Stockman
5 1/2" Stockman
Thought I would post this before it went to its new home. 5 !/2" stockman knife in very poor condition with missing/broken blades and bolster. Has a gorgeous set of bone handles that are seldom seen. Thought others would enjoy seeing them. Going to a new home where they may be given a new life. From what I see now the newer 5 1/2" stockman has yellow cell handles. Don't know how old this is?

That is an old Eye Brand by Carl Schlieper. The stamp is what is called the straight line stamp and it is Schlieper's oldest. Knife is likely from the 1950s or so.
I ballyhoo the Schlieper steel all the time here and in my opinion it is about the best carbon steel ever made. While it is known to hold an edge way better that almost any, it is a brittle steel. The OP knife was apparently used to pry something and result is a predictable broken blade.
Super old worm groove handles!

That stockman would surely have been a looker when it was brand new, what with those gorgeous scales. Hopefully the new owner does fix it up. Even if they swap out the original scales, a stockman that size is a special knife.
