Schlieper Tool Kit & Multiblade

Post by kootenay joe »

Here are 2 Schlieper Eye Brand items that are not often seen.
First is a tool kit in a quality leather case measuring 4.75" x 5". Open the snap and the inner part slides out with tools held in place by leather loops. The handle is 3 7/8" with thick stainless steel sides and a 2 1/4" spearpoint blade. There are 6 tools that slide into the end opposite the blade. These tools seem more precisely made and more heavy duty than found in most tool kits. All are marked "C. Schlieper" in an arch over the eye logo, with "Solingen" underneath the logo and "Germany" at the bottom.
From the 8 leather loops it looks like 1 tool is missing. Anyone know what this missing tool is ?
My other somewhat rare Schlieper is a 3 1/2", 3 spring muliblade with 6 blades/tools, new with original box. This knife came from Singapore which was the import center for European goods beginning during colonial times and continuing until the present or recently at least. Imported goods once off loaded from ships were stored in warehouses for distribution throughout the Far East. The Dutch influence in Singapore created a desire for German made tools and Schlieper made a wide range of hand tools in addition to knives. The Schlieper items exported to Singapore were different than those sold in Germany, or those that were exported to North & South America
The story is that some of these older knives & tools can still be found tucked away in old Singapore warehouses.
This Muliblade is marked "Schlieper" on the box and has the eye logo on the handle. The blade tang is marked "Inox/Solingen/Germany".
