SO... what is the story about the Grand Dads Old Timers?
I just won a GDOT on the bay....
The minimum bid was $.99 and that was what it went for.
This guy still has the blade etch on it.... SO, I am concerned. is something wrong here?
First thing I see is it is a Grand Dad's Old Timer II..... BUT, all the tangs stamps are the same as the GDOT #1...
Everything I have seen about this knife is the same as the first GDOT..... Even the shield is the same. If it wasn't for the blade etch, you would not know it wasn't a first edition GDOT.
SO... What is wrong with this knife? Is it a Taylor Brand?.... It says Schrade USA in the tang stamp.

Well.... Actually, that one was a GDOT..... Not a GDOT II.treefarmer wrote: ↑Fri Jun 25, 2021 1:57 pm Looks like good one to me.

I think that is where my confusion is coming from.
At the same time this GDOT II was on the bay, there was a GDOT for sale and the bids were up there at a normal price.
I can't figure WHY this one was avoided like the plague.

The one that Sanders Knives sold had a serial number on the front bolster, mark side. I couldn't see yours clear enough to see if it had one too.
Somebody will come by that knows about this sporty lookin' Old Timer.
As to why no one bid on it is an interesting question. Kinda' like the G. Schrade Stainless Steel Hunting & Fishing Knife I got the other day, no else bid on it and it is a really fine old knife for being 75 to 96 years old.

The GDOT large stockman and barlow came out in 1974 for Schrade's anniversary, the GDOT sharpfinger and GDOT II small stockman came out in 1975. Here's a link to the GDOT II flyer, definitely a legit knife:

You really lucked out on that one Mike, looks like it went under everyone's radar, plus the pics aren't the best.

I went back and looked and in this (sellers) picture I can see there is a SN on the bolster.
(I can't really read it, but there is one...._)

I fished the GDOT (#1) out of the bay over the weekend. The SN is 00866 so that is cool.

Way to go Mike. The knife gods smiled on you today. Love to find a knife with a little meat left on the bone.
