Re: Craftsman Knives
Jerry, those handles are synthetic, right ? Knife made by Camillus but this exact handle material is not present on Camillus branded knives. I think it is only found on the Sears knives ?
And, about the Barlow with sheepsfoot master, with "USA" on the tang, it was made in USA. Possibly an older Imperial ? I'm strictly guessing, could of been Camillus or Schrade.

That's what I was hoping for. I sure was hoping that the "USA" was a good enough indicator of made in the US....kootenay joe wrote: ↑Fri Jan 24, 2020 5:11 pm

Thanks Mike,
All youse guys have such great collections Im just glad to contribute the couple that Ive picked up along the way. BTW the Black Skinned folding hunter was my Grandfather's. Found it unused in the bottom drawer of a tool chest he had after his passing. He left us in 79' so I'm assuming he bought it not much before that given the age of the packaging. I was 12 in May the year when he passed in April. I tell myself he was gonna give it to me that autumn before my first rifle deer hunt. Even if he wasn't gonna give it to me its a good story to tell my grandkids anyway when they get old enough.
Phil.

Re: Craftsman Knives
"Dunlap" was a line of Craftsman knives that were less expensive than the top of the line "Sta-Sharp" knives. I think the Dunlaps were the same knives but with cheaper handles; i.e. also made by Camillus. Some of the Dunlap knives are marked "High Carbon/Steel" on the master tang and some are marked "Dunlap/USA".
Here are 2 Dunlap knives, a 3 3/8" EO Jack and a 3 5/8" Cattle knife.

Re: Craftsman Knives
Here are three Sta-Sharp 3 5/8" Cattle knives, two 4 blade and one 5 blade. All have been well used but their strength and character are just as present as ever. These are strong work knives.
Imagine walking into a Sears store in the late 1930's or early '40's and seeing a display of Sta-Sharp knives all new and shiny. What a treat it must have been.

Re: Craftsman Knives
Here are two 4 blade Stockman knives, 3 7/8" & 3 3/8". I really like this 4 blade Junior Stockman. It almost has sunk joints. Good looks and strength all in a 'small package'. Very hard pattern to find. I think it was not a big seller. It should have been. I think it is one of the best Sta-Sharps.

Here's a link to where I posted loads of knife listings from Sears Christmas catalogs. There are many Imperial, Schrade and Camillus knives.

Re: Craftsman Knives
Your "Crafstman/USA" Barlow has bone handles, correct ? It could well be a Camillus made knife. Definitely not an 'off shore' knife. It's an older USA knife, and a nice one too.
Yes, a 5 blade Cattle knife is very collectible and a bit rare. Powerhouse of a knife, thick liners, stout knife.

Re: Craftsman Knives
Mike, are you sure they're bone? It looks like delrin to me.
Either way I would bet that it's an ulster made knife, made in the time that schrade and ulster were in the same factory.

Re: Craftsman Knives
Thanks Mike
I do believe both of them are ulster made.
I was asking about the old crafty with a clip. Mike and I were talking about different knives. Little bit of confusion there on my part.kootenay joe wrote: ↑Tue Jan 28, 2020 5:10 pmPaul, are you asking about the Barlow with sheepsfoot master or the one with a Clip blade ?KnifeSlinger#81 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 28, 2020 3:18 pm Mike, are you sure they're bone? I posted this Craftsman razor dispenser already but somehow I missed a really interesting detail on it. The address and phone number on the packaging is Schrade's NYC address and phone number. They really were joined at the hip for a while.
