Re: quiz
Doesn't a stockman usually have a sheepfoot in the frame?

Re: quiz
It has a spey blade where it should have a sheepsfoot and a pin blade where it should have the spey blade.

Yes. But one more thing! Next?orvet wrote:It has a spey blade where it should have a sheepsfoot and a pin blade where it should have the spey blade.
Re: quiz
The sheepsfoot has been reshaped into a spey. Handles look bleached out. Shield looks glued on.
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.

Re: quiz
Any and all of that could be true. I don't know. When I first saw it I thought the covers were Bonite, which I had assumed was strictly Ulster. ? So Mustanger wins (which means he should buy the knife?)
Re: quiz
Bonite crossed my mind too. But I have no knowledge of a Bonite handled 834. The discoloration of the mark side cover is familiar to Delrin.tongueriver wrote:Any and all of that could be true. (I'll pass on the knife)
Re: quiz
I don't think that is bonite, however, seems like I read/saw on the interwebs somewhere the 8OT had bonite for a short time after bone and before delrin.tongueriver wrote:Any and all of that could be true. Re: quiz
It looks to me like someone rehandled the knife and perhaps jigged their own Delrin. If you look at the inlaying of the shield, it looks like it was hand inlayed not inlaid into a preformed hole. The fact that the front and rear handles are two different colors is rather strange also. That was not uncommon in the old days with bone handles but when you can dye Delrin pretty much any color you want, why would you have mismatched handles?

Re: quiz
Without reading anybody else’s posts it looks to me like somebody took a pre swinden 834 (which this has the correct blades and pattern number for that era) and put some delrin on that appears to have had a touch of bleach on one side and buffed the heck out of it. An unfortunate fate for a once nice knife.
