Re: What Schrade RARE knife do you have
I consider this knife both "RARE" and "ODD."
The main blade tang is dual stamped. Look at it with the blade pointed up, it
says SCHRADE over WALDEN over N.Y. U.S.A. Look at it with the blade pointed
down, it says KINGSTON over U.S.A. The pattern # (stamped) is 766.

Could they have used an old stamp from the defunct Kingston line to mark this knife as a defective item?

I have no idea. You would think that if it was defective, they would just toss it or maybe XXX out the original stamp.tongueriver wrote:Could they have used an old stamp from the defunct Kingston line to mark this knife as a defective item?
No matter why it is the way it is, it makes a nice conversation piece.

Harold, you need to get out more often. . The type setter knife is super nice. Looks like it made its way from Hew York City to Kansas somehow. R Hoe & Company manufactured printing press machines in New York. Here is some info on them.stockman wrote:Type-setter #891 I haven't been out looking for a while. Found in junk store. Harold

Thanks Roger
Re: What Schrade RARE knife do you have
tongueriver, you being a top Schrade man made me think about the pattern number on my type setting knife. I found a picture in a real early Sargents book, it was marked 891 same as a stockman with punch.tongueriver wrote:Can't argue with that! Thanks, Harold!

Schrade Cut Co O8883. I think this pattern might be the toughest of the obliques to get your hands on - that was certainly the case for me and I was beyond thrilled to actually find an example in such great condition. To me, that 'O' in the pattern number stands for Oh My!

The grail's grail, Jason, spectacular knife to a stockman junky like me. I'd give my left _________ . . . .
Re: What Schrade RARE knife do you have
Thanks for the comments guys, that oblique is pretty special to me.
Here's another rare one I just got my hands on - a Schrade Cut Co 662 (Kinfolks):

Nice! I don't recall seeing one of those before. "Rare" is appropriate. Your stockman rocks as well.jxr1197 wrote:Thanks for the comments guys, that oblique is pretty special to me.

I don't always respond to great posts but I always appreciate seeing them. Thanks for posting!
Re: What Schrade RARE knife do you have
The 662 was a new one for me too. I've seen plenty of leather stacked and rubber handled Cut Co/Kinfolks knives before, but never bone. I like the 662 a lot, I really do - but the oblique stockman is the one that's got me swooning like a schoolgirl - one of my top 3 grails. Thanks for the commentbladecollectorr wrote:Nice!
