What is HET?

Goes back to the old chat room days. Frequently when someone new logged into chat they would be greeted by those already there with "hey Phil" or whomever it was. It was a pretty common occurrence for someone to type het in place of hey since the t and y keys are side by side. It got to be a running joke and many adopted it as their standard greeting.Stakeknife wrote:What is HET?

Looking for a user Schrade CutCo 8813 ......
Re: Ima wearing hook resistant fishing shorts
I guess that knife lingo I'm not familiar with. Guess I need to read more knife books so I can get caught up.
Re: Ima wearing hook resistant fishing shorts
Nice "toy" you got there, Mr. B. Seems like you constantly come up with interesting old knives and that Schrade Walden automatic is no exception. Pretty cool.
RE: HET: You won't find it in any knife books, but that word has been explained and discussed so much on AAPK, perhaps the name of this site should be changed to "All About HET"!

I'm going to speak out. The rooskie and het offends some people here. If I was doing something on a regular basis that offended people I'd quit. Just me and the type of raising I had. I guess I'm just to old school for my age.

You won't find HET or ROOSKIE in any knife books because they are not knife terms.
"HET' means I like to post stuff that makes absolutely no sense at all to many members and certainly no sense at all to anyone new to the AAPK site.
"ROOSKIE" means I cheated someone out of the fair value of the knife or knives they were selling.
"Ima wearing" means look at me, look at me, look at me. A way to post every knife Dave acquires in a specific format and to draw attention to his incomprehensible ramblings.
What would you expect from someone that calls himself "mr. blister" or that uses "willie_reemer" as an eBay selling name. A blister is something that is an annoying pain or something that shows up after the work is done. willie_reemer....well, that speaks for itself now doesn't it.
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.

Hey, hold on now...surely y'all could tell that I wasn't being serious, right? I was just kidding around. Sorry if I accidentally touched a raw nerve or someone took offense to my weak attempt at lighthearted humor in any way. That certainly is not what I intended. Personally, I have no feelings either way about HET or ROOSKIE, they're both meaningless nonsense words as far as I'm concerned. I just find it interesting that the topic keeps coming up over and over. That's what I was poking fun at--it's taken on a life of its own with clearly drawn battle lines.btrwtr wrote:Me too Keith.espn77 wrote:I guess if that happens I'll have to move my gold membership to bfQTCut5 wrote:Nice "toy" you got there, Mr. B. Clearly, some people enjoy engaging in this incessant controversy, but I am not one of them. I should never have said anything and I think I'll just stick to commenting about knives from now on to avoid inadvertently stepping on anyone's sensitive toes.

Maybe some persons should stay over at BF where their incessant whining
about a none issue might mean something to someone.
As opposed to mudding the waters on this otherwise FRIENDLY website we know and love.
Move yer sensitive little toes out from under THAT !!!!!
....... where's the padlock for this thread ??????

Other than English, my wife also speaks fluent:
Mandarin.
Traditional & Simplified Chinese.
Vietnamese.
Just out of curiosity I asked my wife to translate the following three: HET / ROOSKIE / IMA WEARING from English to her other known languages and provide me with their meaning.
The only above mentioned words that would translate to any of her other languages is "IMA WEARING" and it means: (I am wearing) or: 伊瑪·佩林
HET and ROOSKIE does not exist!!!
She further informed me that "Ima" is an English "Slang" word and is not used in Asian languages because Asians prefer to be direct in their language selection and applications. Slang would only be accepted if one would have a pronouncing problem such as a speech impediment.
My wife than stated: "Why do you and your knife friends ask about such silly stuff?"
Ima Wearing a face.
Nice Schrade MrBlister.
Mandarin.
Traditional & Simplified Chinese.
Vietnamese.

Re: Ima wearing hook resistant fishing shorts
I enjoy playing with the English language, myself. I make up words and have fun with double entendre's, puns, etc. I absorbed some degree of articulation in school many years ago and understand fairly well proper spelling, syntax, sentence conjugations, phrasing and clausing, etc. and it annoys me to no end to see the language abused through ignorance; however, I don't mind seeing it abused if the perpetrator knows what he is doing. I have a pretty good vocabulary, or did (through age-related brain shrinkage and etc. I now have trouble, along with many of my peers in coming up with words on demand that I have known since grade school. They pop up 30 minutes later, but... how annoying!). In "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress" by Robert A. Heinlein, the highly advanced robot Mike, who loves jokes, categorized them four ways: Those that are not funny, those that are funny once, those that are funny a couple of times, and those that will always be funny. There is some speculation as to how to categorize Mister Blister's joking.
Re: Ima wearing hook resistant fishing shorts
Dan...I'm not suggesting our Asian brothers & sisters are inherently deceitful, unethical or unscrupulous in their business transactions (at least not any more so than the rest of the world), but I must admit that I find it hard to believe that there is no word, term, phrase or expression in Chinese or Vietnamese for a person who takes advantage of another's naivete, innocence or trust for their own selfish gain and is proud to the point of boastful in doing so, such as is the definition of ROOSKIE. Perhaps I am getting old and cynical, but I thought pretty much every culture/language would surely have a word for that type of person. Maybe broaden the search terms a bit to include other derogatory epithets that convey basically the same meaning...like a$$#@le.Old Folder wrote:Other than English, my wife also speaks fluent:

Annoying to me and I feel reasonable sure to those to whom I am speaking. Mercy Cal. And here I thought I was the only one.tongueriver wrote:I have a pretty good vocabulary, or did (through age-related brain shrinkage and etc. I now have trouble, along with many of my peers in coming up with words on demand that I have known since grade school.
