Did Schrade advertise and to what extent?

Schrade Cutlery Company was founded in 1904 by George Schrade, and his brothers Jacob and William Schrade. In 1946 Imperial Knife Associated Companies, (IKAC; an association of Ulster Knife Co and Imperial Knife Co) purchased controlling interest in Schrade Cut Co and changed the name to Schrade Walden Cutlery. In 1973 the name was changed to Schrade Cutlery. In 2004 Schrade closed due to bankruptcy.

This forum is dedicated to the knives that are the legacy of this company. This forum is not the place to discuss the replica knives currently being imported using the Schrade name.

Did Schrade advertise and to what extent?

Post by lt632ret »

As usual while looking for something else ( for someone I knows Grandson ). This old file fell out. It is a compilation of photo copies of Schrade ads , magazines they appeared in , packaging and similar item some are right out of the magazines they appeared in. They start in the 60tys and there were many more than I am posting however it should give you an idea of some of the promotions and where they appeared this is only a smattering even of the years it represents. Some of you may find it interesting. Once i put the file back into the pile who knows when it will be found again. This compilation was kept as a record for reference for the company. Again it is only a smattering of the info. LT I stopped when the floppy filled up.

So I guess the answer is they did use quite a bit of budget to advertise there product. I have a lot of memos from the Baers explaining and discussing plans for advertising as well as other subject perhapes some day I will be able to have these publicly displayed they give a great insite to the wisdom and humor as well as the objectives of this company and these people. OUTSTANDING! ::tu:: ::tu::

It would be great if you put copies of these in a book. You could do a whole book on Schrade advertisements.

Wonderful stuff LT! Please keep it coming. Millions of people around the world have Schrade knives. Only a handful (if that many) have these ads...........you may be the only one. Thanks for sharing.

Dale

PS- I will be gone for the weekend, so I will probably have a lot to catch up with when I get back. This stuff is the greatest.

As usual your collection continues to leave me speechless, LT. However, I thought the Henry Baer Loves Old Timer carved in the tree was quite clever. I'm assuming thats what it stands for, if not please correct me.
