Seller accepted my offer on a liitle "108DU Gentleman's Pocket Knife by DU Canada". I like the handles and Canadian-content etch.

Nice. Keep your eye peeled for the DU Canada wooden handled Schrade folding hunter. And, of course, any of the Calgary Stampede knives. I gave a stag CS lockback (LB-7 type) to a fellow who did not care anything about it. Oh well.

I am really getting into ISC/Ellenville era Schrades that have handles other than plastic. Looks like I'm gonna have to look out for that one!

Thanks. I will watch for other DU Canada and Calgary Stampede knives. Schrade made some quality SFOs for both organizations that look good in the catalogs.

I want one of these sambar Quebec-version "Canards Illimites" knives but it has eluded me for many years. The very first Schrade I "collected" was an English-text black delrin knife with a similar blade and burnt stag would be even nicer.

I do like that big walnut Son-of-a-Gun. It would look good paired with the "Lightning Express" knife. Thanks for reminding me about the "Duck Pond" thread. It's been inactive too long.

I've basically made the same transition over the years. Delrin is a tough material and doesn't look "cheap" to me. I like what Schrade did with it but I had to basically stop buying the more common delrin Schrades so that I could afford the bone, stag, sterling and MOP when I come across it.

The handles on my Canadian 108DU look similar to these DU knives from 2000-2001. I think they are likely solid oak as well but they may be an oak "resin impregnated" Fibron-type handle.

I have never seen that sambar Canada duck knife - WOW! Do you know what they did with the blade? Is it blued, tit-nit, tungsten, something else?

It's a hot-blued, mirror-polished, carbon blade with gold-filled etch done by Baron Technology (Baron Engraving). Both knives have the exact same blade except for the English vs French text. It's the same blade treatment as was used on some big NRA and Pearl Harbor bowies and the most commonly seen DU153 Golden Spike etc. It's a black mirror (good tv show!). You can see your reflection on these blades.

Many years ago, I phoned Baron myself to discuss these blades. I think they are super attractive so I wanted to get the info on them right. They certainly remembered when they were doing (much) work for Schrade and were very helpful.

Baron did the bluing and the etching on these. First the 1095 blades were mirror polished, then etched, then gold plating was added and lastly they were "gun-blued" (hot blued) as per Tom Lent who was Baron's Custom Shop Manager when I spoke to him.

Here's more pics of my DU 2000 lockback knife including a blade close-up. I'm on the fence about having it re-handled with something spectacular. I saw one re-done in mammoth that was ultra-nice. That would seemingly be easier than finding the Quebec knife. I think these blued blades deserve better than delrin. The bowies all got stag.

Yes, and I am thinking BC would be a good one for "before Chinese." LOL.

These made-for-SMKW "New York Knife Co" branded SFOs occasionally show up online and they are usually pretty pricey. This one I got for $75USD shipping included. Holding out for an even lower price seemed unrealistic for one of these Sharp Fingers so I pulled the trigger.

I think the sambar on this example is very well matched. I'm super happy to add this knife to my Schrade collection. It appears that 500 of these NYK152S knives were produced and there were 5 knives in this 1995 series.

As per Codger elsewhere:

In 1995 SMKW ordered a series of burnt stag handled stainless knives with nostalgia marking, New York Knife Co. Walden. Schrade made 4 patterns of these stag handled NYK knives for SMKW in 1995. NYK8s, NYK34S, NYK77S and NYK94S 1500 each delivered 500 per month Jul – September along with a matching Sharpfinger, NYK152S. The series used a modified Empire shield. The NYK152S was still offered in the July 1997 catalog which stated 500 pieces made.

890 pattern 3.5 inches, Schrade Walden. I believe this bone jigging to be late 1950s. I am tickled with this new one.

That one is a real prize!

Since the Irish Imperials were marketed by ISC as a budget line, we can show them in this thread, correct?

I wanted a good-sized, but lightweight work knife that was just "blade and saw" that wouldn't break the bank. I had a Bear and Son offering, and it was horrible--bad wobble on both blades, and the linerlock on the saw must have been made out of tin. The Son of a Gun isn't happening except in the tiny chance I find one that no one bid on for a low opening price, or a completely clueless seller. Always wanted to try this knife. I find the Imperial Ireland knives may have slightly softer steel than USA Schrades, but their fit and finish is always top notch. The lockup is solid, and despite my fears, the red top-mount button lock seems impossible to accidentally disengage. Both blade and saw lock. I've got nasty cuts from the saw on my SAK folding accidentally when in use. The saw is thin, kerfed properly, and pull-cut. I've tested it on a scrap of lumber, and it's awesome. Cuts great. Something I never expect on an inexpensive knife. Especially one that was secondhand, and had evidence of being used to cut PVC pipe--which is death on a proper wood saw.

Tradesman TM6 Bladesaw. The lace is something I just had laying around. Originally, it was supplied with an orange one about the same length, which was missing on mine. This was a leg tie off an Ontario SP1. Kinda got a bit of excess of mineral oil I need to clean off. The handles on this knife, unlike the smaller plastic-handle Irish Imperials seem to be overlaid with Kraton or similar--it's rubbery.

Those are indeed ISC items and fit perfectly into this Schrade Legacy forum.

Yesterday brought a couple interesting ephemera listings. I bought them both.

Most of it is from 1979. There are a number of items that aren't yet posted on https://collectors-of-schrades-r.us/. The 1979 Schrade Scrimshaw of the Great Outdoors flyer is one of them. The Schrade Beast and 7OT cover pic isn't posted either. There is also some 1990's stuff included in the 2nd lot.

I already have a similar 1981 dealer binder so I know that the 38 pages in the 1979 binder will also be full of interesting stuff. The 1979 Schrade Almanac is a rarity that I am very glad to add to my collection. Schrade Beast iron-on is super fun. The article on Frank Giorgianni is pretty cool.

I will scan and send any new stuff to lrv when I get it. I will also send a 1979 Schrade Almanac upgrade (high-res).

Today I landed one of the two knives (?) bearing the 1991, letter "G" Schrade Hallmark. This one is the "Guide's Choice" 144DU with shield and etch (in original sheath). It looks like it will clean-up real nice.

I purchased the actual letter "G" hallmark stamp from ea42 a while back and have been on the hunt for the knives it was used on. One down, one to go. The other knife is a burgundy delrin PH2DU. One of these days....

I just landed another Schrade I*XL 3-blade pearl canoe knife. This is my third variation that is unadorned except for a blade etch.

My guess would be that this was a Parker knife (or you would see "Schrade I*XL" on the etch) but I have no way of knowing that for sure. I know it will fit in perfectly with my current pair of Orgill Brothers knives.
