What is Your Latest Old Schrade?

Schrade Cutlery Company was founded in 1904 by George Schrade, and his brothers Jacob and William Schrade. In 1946 Imperial Knife Associated Companies, (IKAC; an association of Ulster Knife Co and Imperial Knife Co) purchased controlling interest in Schrade Cut Co and changed the name to Schrade Walden Cutlery. In 1973 the name was changed to Schrade Cutlery. In 2004 Schrade closed due to bankruptcy.

This forum is dedicated to the knives that are the legacy of this company. This forum is not the place to discuss the replica knives currently being imported using the Schrade name.

That one is sweet Jason, now I wish I would have tried for it. However I didn't because I was saving for a higher priority, which I did win. You'll see it here soon :D

I found this gem amongst two other knives that it didn't belong with, so I rescued it to be with its peachseed brethren :D

I couldn't resist posting this one here. The scales are at least 10,000 years old

Thanks for the good words. Herman said it was a real son of a gun to work with,,,the rings kept separating. I was surprised at the cost of the ivory...$48 delivered.

I got this 861 Schrade Walden on a trade and it was described as "rough". There is a lot of blade wear and there is a little piece of the pile side bone missing but it is such a comfortable HOK! It walks and talks and will slowly be cleaned up, sharpened and get a little pocket time.
I was surprised that it has "jimping" along the back side of the liners. The stamp is the '46-'73 mark, USA w/o the periods. Is that time frame '46-'73 as close as this one can be nailed down? Any thoughts about age would be appreciated.

I would think the bone handles close the gap to '46-'61 or so and the milled back probably makes mid-fifties more likely for the top side of the range. So maybe '46-'55ish?

It's hard to nail it down for sure, it's safe to say '46-'61 as that's when it shows in the catalogs described with bone handles.

The 1954 catalog describes the milled back...

...but the 1961 catalog does not. The catalogs in between '54-'61 only describe the pattern number, handle material, length and price. No other details are given in the catalogs between these years. Notice this also does not describe whether the large blade was polished on one side, though it likely was. It's also likely it still had the milled back but maybe also had the red wavy jig bone that was used in the last S-W days before bone ended.

They added USA to the stamps about 1951 to 1955 (???), and quit using bone about 1960 or 1961.

It's worn but doesn't look too rough, and is a very desireable pattern! It looks much better than some schrades I own that I would definitely say are rough.

Schrade Walden 124 ? I have not ever seen this pattern before. Schrade also used "124" for the Uncle Henry 4" Folding Hunter, the 124UH. A bit odd to use same number for different patterns even though from a different era.
Here is my newest Schrade, a 225H. This is the same knife as a 227UH and the 25OT and all 3 were made concurrently. This Schrade/USA 225H would be from 1972 until ?, not sure, maybe early 1980"s ?
Handles are Delrin and the shield has a Yin-Yang symbol over "ASTEN". I have seen Schrade Rope knives with "Asten Felts" etch. I believe this was a company that made felt wheels used in processing wood pulp to paper.
This knife has been very lightly used but blades never resharpened. Note that blade tips are original. Many of the Schrade Folding Hunters have rounded tips, so i think this is a great find.
Sheath is the older style for the Folding Hunter but has "Uncle Henry" on it so might not be original. Regardless i like it, a lot, sheath & knife.
