Meanwhile the 804 whittler is absolutely primo, top gun, number one, a perfect ten, etc. Congratulations!

Re: What is Your Latest Old Schrade?
Thank you everyone for the gracious comments.
Eric, I believe you. In fact, after I read your comment I remembered that esteemed AAPK member Ray Paladin from whom I purchased the knife told me that he believed the box was from a repair.ea42 wrote:It's possible that the knife was sent in for some kind of repair, and the use and care paperwork was sent back as a little reminder to take care of the knife. I'm not kidding, I seem to recall seeing an invoice with a reference to such things.Eric

Met the mailman today at my mailbox. Dirty, but otherwise mint, never sharpened, never 'cleaned.'
Re: What is Your Latest Old Schrade?
What a score...I didn't see the listing for that until just before it sold...what were there, something like 8 bids on it?

Seller: "This is and old pocket knife signed Scrade. It belonged to my dad who took care of it.It is well made for sure.Wood is in great condition as the blades are also."
Speling is a littel week.
Re: What is Your Latest Old Schrade?
He's right - the wood looks new! And speaking of wood handled 2OTs........tongueriver wrote:Wood is in great condition
I found one myself last night! I spotted a wood handled, arched stamp 2201 - at least that's what I'm calling it. When I receive it I'll post some better pictures. I thought it was walnut but I have no idea if Schrade ever used that. I know they used Cocobola which is a "1" in the fourth spot, so here's the ebay pic of my soon to be 2201:
Could use a little clean up...

Re: What is Your Latest Old Schrade?
Good catch! pre-1920, maybe pre-1910!
Re: What is Your Latest Old Schrade?
I think maybe late teens. The tang stamps are straight line and the cap stamps are arched. Michael Little reminded me that Schrade never threw anything away so maybe this was made right when the tang stamp switch was happening?

Cal and Jason, fantastic finds for both of you! I've seen maybe three of the arch stamped cap knives in the last fifteen years, definitely a rarity!

Re: What is Your Latest Old Schrade?
Thanks Eric. I've seen pictures of two others, both here on AAPK - and I'm pretty sure one was Cal's? I got the knife today and it's actually in really good shape. It's just covered in 100 years of gunk - I cleaned a bit off to take a picture. This will take some time to finish. Can you tell from the pic if it is cocobolo?ea42 wrote:Cal and Jason, fantastic finds for both of you! Cal, Jason, wonderful additions to your collections!
Re: What is Your Latest Old Schrade?
That's an awesome find, Jason!
Re: What is Your Latest Old Schrade?
Thank you all for the nice feedback. Tom, I think I'll have to hold on to this one for a while. Besides, what are the odds of me ever finding another Schrade you don't already have?
Here are a couple more pics after many hours of wiping away a century of grime. Notice the straight line tang stamps? It still snaps hard and has just the slightest bit of blade play on the master.

Good show on that Washington bolster jack; I hope you carry it. Meanwhile, who bought the Schrade CutCo true whittler a couple days ago? Come on; let's have a look!

Re: What is Your Latest Old Schrade?
Jason and Cal, nice 2OT's that you found.
This knife is marked Schrade Walden NY USA with a blade etch that says Craftsman 9488 Professional Carpenter. Except for the bone color and minor difference in the shape of the shield, it appears identical to the Schrade 804 that I posted a couple of weeks ago.

Beautiful whittlers! It doesn't get better than that!
Re: What is Your Latest Old Schrade?
That Craftsman is amazing! I love seeing the old survivors that still show the blade etch.

Re: What is Your Latest Old Schrade?
Both of those are in really great shape and very practical. The little blades are perfect whittling blades.
