My latest Schrade
Re: My latest Schrade
Your knife is obviously a spin-off of a military Demo knife. Because of the screwdriver on your knife it dates to sometime after 1974 when military specs did away with the pin punch that you see on my Ulster knife in the picture. These types of knives began production in the 1940s by military contract. Imperial was involved with the first production through a collaboration with Ulster called Kingston to make knives for the military during WWII. Curious how this knife would be useful to a pharmacist.
Re: My latest Schrade
Both sides of the knife are engraved leaving no room for the money shot and big pharma never misses a branding opportunity. None of these Imperial 'apothecary knives' have Diflucan or Viagra on them. Aside from that they generally use much, much cheaper knives (I collect them). I was also trying to figure out why these were made. At first I thought medical corps but the army would never pay for frivolous engraving. Maybe a SFO for one of the big chains? CVS, Walgreems, etc?kootenay joe wrote:It likely was a knife given by a pharmaceutical rep to pharmacists.

Re: My latest Schrade
In my previous post I messed up trying to get an idea of a date for your knife by using references to military knives. Your knife is a civilian spin-off of the Demo knife and some kind of SFO. Now that I'm awake I looked into the tang stamp as a way of getting an idea of the time frame when your knife was made. I'm not a huge Imperial knife guy but I came up with this list of tang stamps and dates from The Official Price Guide to Collector Knives XV. Your knife must be later than 1988, after they stopped stamping PROV. RI. on the tang. And you have some history of the pattern and how it came to be.

I propose to continue the discussion of this knife in the relevant topic - viewtopic.php?f=64&t=55273

Here's a recent pawn shop score, a near mint 206.

Re: My latest Schrade
Fantastic knife! They don't come any better! The box is from a later Schrade ownership era, but that is great also. Hmmm... I need to get me an old box; don't have one.
Re: My latest Schrade
Schrade 296Y. Listed from 1992 to 1998. The price tag on the box reflects the list price for '92. Love me some yellow Schrades!
Re: My latest Schrade
I guess I'll put this one up here too. The Kentucky Rifle commemorative that Schrade contracted to do for A. G. Russell in 1971. Mine is later than that with a serial number of 10701 and a Schrade, Ny tang stamp instead of Schrade Walden.

Re: My latest Schrade
Think I'll post my latest additions here instead of the mail call thread. All these came with their packaging.
Got me another minty 858OT.
A large trapper (bigger than the 94 or 285), Old Timer classic edition. Wonder if they ever made a stockman edition like this and this size?
Scored my first early edition minty 94OT with its box and papers.
A sweet lil LB5. This thing looks sexy with the nickle silver bolsters and liners!
Got my first FFA 8OT.
And last but certainly not least... a minty post Walden pre NY USA 8OT w/ its box and papers. I would dare say this might be the second or third most rare 8OT there is?

Re: My latest Schrade
An 8OTY [listed as a 'Senior Stockman'] sold today on eBay for US$119.
The yellow 'Frontiersman' 8OTY was sold for only one year, that year was 1990.
So I fell the brown box, is not the box the 'Frontiersman 8OTY' came in.
eBay item number:15294119760.
