Schrade-Barnett Collaboration

Schrade Cutlery Company was founded in 1904 by George Schrade, and his brothers Jacob and William Schrade. In 1946 Imperial Knife Associated Companies, (IKAC; an association of Ulster Knife Co and Imperial Knife Co) purchased controlling interest in Schrade Cut Co and changed the name to Schrade Walden Cutlery. In 1973 the name was changed to Schrade Cutlery. In 2004 Schrade closed due to bankruptcy.

This forum is dedicated to the knives that are the legacy of this company. This forum is not the place to discuss the replica knives currently being imported using the Schrade name.

Oh...Did I fail to Mention....this is a Schrade USA Knife, not a Taylor Brand manufactured in the USA.

This beauty was actually produced in Ellenville, NY.

Nice catch Tom!!! ::tu:: ::tu:: ::drool:: ::drool::
I think the only one I have seen was the picture on a flyer.
I didn't know for sure that they had actually been made.
Do you know how many were made?

SWEET find!

The numbers I have access to say 1000 over a few years Dale. There is a Red one as well...I have my eyes peeled for that one too. Pricey little Devil's though....but worth it as far as I'm concerned!

That one looks nice and has the numbers and the black screws.
There were only 1000 of each, 1 through 500 marked first production run.
I wish I could find a couple of those, I do not own one and I designed them, I have a couple sheaths that I signed with the wrong pen (non waterproof)lol and still have the only award schrade ever won at the Blade show but no complete knives just parts that I approved.
If you run across any for sale let me know. ::tu::

Bigblade - Welcome to AAPK. I hope you hang around. You sound like a man with a lot of knowledge to share.

My compliments on your design. Very nice. What are the handle materials and what were your thoughts behind the scale look for the green material?

Nice knives Tom, ::tu::
I have seen them sell for under $200, about 2 years back - they sell for a lot more then that now-a-days.
I found 20 of those zip-up bags for D’holders and Lake & Walkers - One was a Barnett bag… ken

I did it again....I came across two more Schrade Barnett Collaborations...

No boxes, sheaths or papers, however, they are both Green. One is Mint and the other is miising a thumb stud

I just couldn't pass those babies up.

I now have a Green "First Production Run" 1 of 500 complete, a Red "First Production Run" 1 of 500 complete, a Green Mint one (just knife) and another Green (just knife) missing a thumb stud.

Anyone interested in adding these to their gathering can PM me! (Neither of the first production runs will be leaving MD).

I fell in love with the Schrade Barnett knife when I saw it on the Blade magazine cover many years ago. I think that knife set the standard for collaborations between factories and elite knifemakers/designers. I would love to own a Van Barnett original. However, this collaboration knife is as close most can get.

If you notice, on page one, post #6........that is Van Barnett's post. He designed these knives and doesn't have any.

That's a shame!

I had two spares, however, I traded one that was missing the thumbstud to a custom maker member here atvAAPK. I can't wait to see what he does with it.

I still have one spare...just the knife, no paperwork or nylon pouch

Did Taylor Brands LLC make a copy of the Schrade Barnett knives(Red/Green)?
It appears to me that the etching on these knives is "Schrade Burnett" on the mark side, and "First Production Run, 1 of 500", on the other, and the serial # under the choil. Did the original ones have a USA stamping on them anywhere?
If Taylor's did make one, how do you tell the difference between the Real McCoy and a China made piece of rubbish.

Not sure if Taylor has produced copies of these or not. I would think that Van Barnett would have to agree with that because he did the collaboration with Schrade. Somehow I do not believe Mr. Van Barnett would agree to have one of his Custom knives copied by the Chinese, or anyone else for that matter.

I did go look at my knives and none of them are marked USA.....
Two of them are marked Schrade Barnett on the Mark side and First Production Run 1 of 500 pn the reverse.

I have documentation, from the Schrade factory, that shows they initially made a run of 500 of each (Red & Green) which were marked First Production Run 1 of 500 and then another 500 of each were produced following that.....Only marked Schrade Barnett.

If you have a picture or a link to a knife that says Schrade Burnett, I would sure like to see it.
