Camillus Question

The Camillus Cutlery Company was one of the oldest knife manufacturers in the United States with roots dating back to 1876. The company manufactured Camillus branded knives and was a prolific contractor for other knife brands up until its last days in 2007 when the company filed for bankruptcy.

Camillus Question

Post by Quick Steel »

Can anyone tell me anything at all about this knife. There are no tang stamps. The shield reads Camillus. The master blade is etched with "Rough Cut." OAL is 4".

I believe those were some of the last knives made before Camillus went out of business. I heard somewhere that the blades originally had Craftsman tang stamps which were ground off to convert the knife to a Camillus brand, but I have no way to verify that.

That's the first one I've seen with a round shield. All the others I've seen have had the oval Camillus shield.

Thank you Eric. That is very interesting info and would explain the lack of tang stamps.

It looks like an advertising stockman knife for Rough Cut Tobacco, but maybe it is made from leftover parts from auction.

Some time after Camillus closed a whole bunch of these Camillus "Rough Cut" stockman pattern knives showed up on ebay for about $20 each.

Good looking knife. I have seen them with the round shield as well as the oval shield. They also came with the jigged brown delrin handles as well as black sawcut delrin handles with the long oval Camillus shield.
