Camillus Split Spring Whittler Pocket Knife

The Camillus Cutlery Company was one of the oldest knife manufacturers in the United States with roots dating back to 1876. The company manufactured Camillus branded knives and was a prolific contractor for other knife brands up until its last days in 2007 when the company filed for bankruptcy.

Just in case someone doesn't know what an Argus C-3 is..............

"The Argus C3 was a low-priced rangefinder camera mass-produced from 1939 to 1966 by Argus in Ann Arbor, Michigan, United States. The camera sold about 2 million units, making it one of the most popular cameras in history. Due to its shape, size, and weight, it is commonly referred to as "The Brick" by photographers (in Japan its nickname translates as "The Lunchbox"). The most famous 20th-century photographer who used it was Tony Vaccaro, who employed this model during World War II."

This afternoon, this beauty arrived. It will make a wonderful addition to my "general" CAMILLUS collection. It's a CAMILLUS 60, 3 blade, 3 1/8" closed, milled liners, "split spring" whittler pocket knife. It needed very minor cleaning. I took some pictures and here it is. Click on a picture to ENLARGE.

Skip, that one is nothin' but nice. I have quite a few tip bolster knives, but not a tip bolster whittler.

This is only my second CAMILLUS, "true" whittler pocket knife.
Both are COMPLETELY different from each other.
My other CAMILLUS, NO pattern #, "true" whittler.

Skip, I am curious. While I am generally not into very old knives (sacrilege, I know), that thing is a beauty.

My question; is the work on the springs all factory?

I honestly don't know if the spring
work was done in the factory or not.

Skip, I saw that one (or its twin) and was tempted to bid on it. Glad you got it - it needed to be somewhere it is appreciated. ::tu::

Very nice Skip. Those are seen far and between for sure, especially with bone. Usually more worn and for some reason the file usually in rough shape.Great find. ::tu::

Finally got a Whittler made by Camillus with the split or wedge in the back springs. They were in a lot that had won and they are part of the reason for buying the lot which I usually don’t do. Wasn’t any pics of back springs so wow, what a surprise. One is a sword brand stamped main and 4 line stamp on the other 2 . Brass liners wedge and pins with half stop on the small clip and pen . The 4 line has the milled steel liners, pins ,wedge, shield. Also half stops on the small clip and pen. No model # on either. They are both 3 and 5/8 inches long with swell center. Will be toting these for a few ,they have strong snap yet all the way around. Even with the use they have had they are solid knives, very well built.
