Camillus 72! Or What's In The Mail?

The Camillus Cutlery Company was one of the oldest knife manufacturers in the United States with roots dating back to 1876. The company manufactured Camillus branded knives and was a prolific contractor for other knife brands up until its last days in 2007 when the company filed for bankruptcy.

Camillus 72! Or What's In The Mail?

Post by New_Windsor_NY »

I won this particular auction. Below is the title, description and pictures (seller's) of the auction.
Either the wrong pictures were posted and the title & description are correct. Or the pictures are correct and the title & description are wrong. Normally, if I'm not interested in the item, I'll contact the seller and point out the error. But I was interested and didn't notify the seller. Didn't want the auction pulled and possibly lose a #72. So whatever I'm actually going to receive, it has been shipped. If it isn't a #72, then I don't know what I'm receiving. Maybe a #14? I believe I win no matter what I get ($14 + shipping). When I get it, I'll post pictures of the mystery knife. ::shrug:: :D

Maybe they just hit the wrong number button while they were typing. Happens to me all the time.

Maybe so, but I find it odd that the 3rd blade is not open in any of the pictures. There were a couple more pics, but very blurry, so I didn't include them with the others. I "should" know by this Friday. ::shrug::

If you want it to be a surprise, don't read this.

It's a Camillus (or course) 72 with what they called Brownstag® (synthetic) handles. Brownstag® was introduced in 1956 or 1957 and discontinued in the mid-late '60s in favor of Delrin®. Once again I will state that it's my belief that the long line tang stamp was introduced somewhere around the mid-late '50s. I've been unable to find any definitive proof to back up that belief. Please come back and provide some good clear pictures when it arrives. A $14 72 is a good find. Even with the lousy pictures, it appears to be in pretty decent condition. ::pray::

The surprise won't be what pattern of #72 the knife is. The surprise will be if the knife that I receive is a #72 at all. I am not 100% sure that the knife pictured is the knife that I won or that I will receive. The title and "item specifications" say 2 blades. The seller's description doesn't mention # of blades at all. Here are the "item specifications." (copied & pasted)

Item specifics
Condition: Used :
Seller Notes: “good collectible or useable item. small crack in bone near rivet on side with shield see last photo”
Country/Region of Manufacture: United States
Number of Blades: 2
Blade Material: steel
Opening Mechanism: Manual
Blade Edge: Plain
Handle Material: Bone
Dexterity: Ambidextrous
Brand: Camillus
Type: Pocketknife
Authenticity: Original

Now I can't wait until Friday, but I am holding my breath. ::uc::

Here are the pictures (seller's) that I didn't post earlier.

Well it's one of the few things I'm fairly confident about knowing and sharing information is one of the things AAPK is about, so..........

If the knife is indeed a 72 and the 3rd blade is "frozen" shut, I WILL get it to open and function normally.
