Camillus Double Shield Knife?

The Camillus Cutlery Company was one of the oldest knife manufacturers in the United States with roots dating back to 1876. The company manufactured Camillus branded knives and was a prolific contractor for other knife brands up until its last days in 2007 when the company filed for bankruptcy.

Camillus Double Shield Knife?

Post by New_Windsor_NY »

Did Camillus ever produce a pocket knife with a shield on each handle?
Was one for personalization? If your answer is yes, is this one of them? If your answer
is no, then what is this? ::shrug::

I will have to check but I do not recall seeing a glimp shield like the Uncle Henry on any Camillus catalog pattern. They did put the UH glimp shield on the knives they made on contact for Schrade, but those had the Uncle Henry name on the shield.

I don't recall ever seeing a glimp shield on any knife bearing a Camillus tang stamp. ::shrug::

From the 2006 catalog. Very close and the best I can tell (I'm open to other opinions) they called it "Dura-Stag".

The angled bolsters are not parallel as in the example Jerry posted, the bolsters look more like a Buck. In fact it looks like a Buck pattern, I think it was called a Lancer.
It appears to be a Buck with a Camillus blade that someone has cut down an Uncle Henry handle and added an extra shield on the pile side.

I think Vit was spot on with his Franken knife assessment. ::nod::

Sorry I didn't make myself clear. I was just talking about the handles possibly being Camillus.

Here are 2 other knives, along with the double shield Camillus (?) knife.
They are Schrade+ Uncle Henry 897, the Camillus in question and a Camillus 71.
The Schrade & Camillus (?) both have similar shields. The Camillus (?) & the 71
Have very similar handles & bolsters. I'm thinking that the handles were added
to the knife rather than the blade(s) being added. Frankenknife? I like it no matter
what it is. :D

All Camillus Indian Stag knives have bolsters slanted to one side. In addition, the Indian Stag series (excluding #6 & #26) was discontinued before the appearance of a two-line tang stamp.

The Buck 300 series knives have slanted to different side bolsters, but they did not have Indian Stag (Dura-Stag) handles.

There is another "double shield" Camillus on eBay as of this post. Legit or "Frankenknife?" ::shrug::

Shortly before New_Windsor_NY posted a link to eBay, I found these pictures on my computer.
883 (1).jpg
883 (2).jpg
I thought - "Hey! #883 it is Woodcraft series".
I carefully looked at the parameters and pictures of other knives of the series, and I realized that the knife from the starting topic was made on the base of #881.
My next guess was that these were re-handled Woodcraft knives. I contacted with the best customization specialist of Camillus knives, who I know - Wallace Rockwell. Here is what he replied:
- Vit, Both where made at Camillus Cutlery from left over parts. Then sold by Smoky Mt. We did this a lot in the last years to use up dead inventory. So not re-handled made by Camillus. Wallace
- Thanks Wallace! I have never seen such handles on Camillus knives. Could this be parts for Schrade?
- Yes

Thus, the riddle can be considered unraveled :D
And I like it

I agree. It is very interesting. So, it is a "Frankenknife." At least it's a "legitimate" "Frankenknife", if there is such a thing.
I've seen a couple more of these knives on eBay since I posted that link on Thursday. Below are 2 pictures from that link.
So what do we call these knives? How about Camillrades or Schramillus? Might be worth the investment. ::shrug::

Oh, and thank to Vit_213 & Mr. Wallace Rockwell for the helpful information. ::tu::

In Moscow every year seven knife shows take place. "Hunting and fishing in Russia", "Blade", "Arsenal" twice a year, and "Arms and Hunting" once a year.
Here are my photos from the last two shows:

Here’s another double shield. It has Sword Brand stamp on tang and other side tang is Camillus over 882 over U.S.A.

Here’s another double shield Camillus. A 881 , not very well built, some blade rub. It does have stamped tang markings not etch ,on both sides .
The pen blade doesn’t sit in the well right and rubs on main. You can really tell the quality of there product went down hill prior to closing .

Vit here’s one like yours but they stuck a Craftsman main blade on it. Tang is Stamped w/ Sears , Craftsman over U.S.A. 95224 . With Craftsman Stainless Steel etch .
Must of been running out of other blades by then ::nod::
