Two Sailor Jacks

The Camillus Cutlery Company was one of the oldest knife manufacturers in the United States with roots dating back to 1876. The company manufactured Camillus branded knives and was a prolific contractor for other knife brands up until its last days in 2007 when the company filed for bankruptcy.

Two Sailor Jacks

Post by kootenay joe »

I am not sure that "Sailors Jack" is the correct name for a knife with no Marlin spike but the Tin Opener blade is often seen on a Sailors Jack.
Help with proper names id always welcome.
Here are 2 old Camillus knives, 5" closed. Note the Ebony jack has the old 3 line stamp, no "USA". This marking pre dates the 4 line stamp.
I date these as being WW I era or earlier.

The one with out the spike looks almost new. Two good looking knives.

The master blade has sample # in black on back side so the knife is close to the same as when it was completed. I cannot say "left the factory" because this might have been from the display in the Camillus factory lobby. (please correct if display was not in lobby)
