Pawnshop find
I check all 3 of our area pawnshops about once a week, for any bargains. Today, at the last stop, I found a near-mint (blade untouched, slight tarnish on brass) Camillus #3 locking folding knife. No price sticker, girl looked it up and said, how about $5. About what I expected, as I have gotten stupid low prices here before on Case and Buck knives (new 110 with new sheath, $7). I like these knives, very high quality and comfortable handle shape. I already had the larger #4 but #3 is more pocket-sized. 4 in. overall closed, 3 in. single clip blade. Very heavy steel pivot pin showing in front bolster. Blade lockup like a bank vault door. So I'm a happy camper today.

You're one fortunate dude to have a pawn shop like that! Most of them seem to start by asking the MSRP, even for well used and even damaged knives, thus "the art of the deal" must begin!

Do you have a spare bedroom? Looks like Scott is going to try and move in with you.

Re: Pawnshop find
I live in southeast Louisiana, about 50 miles from New Orleans. I hit about 5 pawnshops in NO regularly, also. Two years ago I found an unused Morseth hunting knife, genuine article made in Arkansas, with original sheath, for $19. Boker two-blade folding hunter, used but nice with great snap, in a bucket of junk knives, $6. Great deals on guns are getting scarcer, since they can look up the make and model on auction sites and get a fair retail value. No so easy with vintage knives. I guess over the years I have honed my "scanning" skills so that in about 60 seconds I can look over a glass case of Chinese and Pakistani knives and spot an American classic in the group, and then I'm on it "like white on rice," as they say in Cajun country. (my camera is acting weird, or I could post a few pics, sorry)
