That's alright Tommy. In August of '79 I'd have only been 3 years old so I wouldn't have had the money anyway.

$11.25 = $37.32
$17 = $56.40

Re: ......1979 camillus prices.....
Just about to start my senior year in September.
Those prices were pretty steep.......I wouldn't've paid that much when I could buy a couple 6 packs!!!

Re: ......1979 camillus prices.....
The significant aspect is not so much the change in price over time, but the change in the number of work hours required to buy the knife.
Using average wage (i don't know how to find this), how much time was needed in 1979 to earn $11.75 and how much time now in 2016 to earn $37.32 ?
My bet is that you would need to work longer now to buy the #72 Whittler at $37.32 than you needed to work in 1979 to earn the $11.25 to buy the same knife.

Class of '73. I can't even begin to tell you how different things are today. (Even 1979 was quite different from the time during the last days of the Vietnam War). Yes, I have a long memory... too long.

Re: ......1979 camillus prices.....
A few years ago in another forum we went through this same exercise wit the price of Ithaca 37 shotguns at some point in the 70's. I don't remember the exact numbers, but the host of the matter was hat when you did he math with inflation and the value of the dollar they were about the same price today as in the 70's.
The problem is that our dollar today just ain't what it used to be.

Colonel, I think I got a hell of a good deal then.
I think this knife was made around 1975, according to this inflation calculator this knife would now cost $ 26.59!

Re: ......1979 camillus prices.....
Dimitri, what knife are you referring to ?
The above # 67 for $5.96 in 1975 would be $26.59 in 2016, 346% inflation.

Sorry Roland, I entered the wrong amount I corrected it
This is the knife I was referring to, how in 2017 can you go out and buy this knife, made in America, for $26.59?

Re: ......1979 camillus prices.....
$5.96 is not the official retail price. In 1975 #67 knife cost about $9.
Moreover, I think that this knife was made in the late 80s.

If that's true what would it have cost in the 1980's?

Sorry, that's all I have. 1981-1991 is a big black hole for prices.
