Model 99
Model 99
Hey guys,
I have been a lurker for a while, been using and appreciating the data base on certain knives.
Finally I have joined.
So for my first picture post I thought I would put up a few of my newest acquisition.
She has been used and shows marks and dings.
After a modest cleaning and minor fix she is ready to be shown.

Thank you for the welcome.
I was not satisfied with the 99, so I went back to the shop with it.

Re: Model 99
I saw there didn't seem to be much difference in the two knives other than the second one having been fluffed and buffed. I didn't want to insult you so I didn't think it appropriate to mention that to someone new to the forum.

Have no apprehension about insulting me.
I've been around a while and have had some good ones flung in my direction.
Thanks though

It never hurts to be polite. And besides, don't want to give the new guy the wrong impression right off the bat and run him off before he has a chance to find out what this forum is all about.

Re: Model 99
It's a fools game to date Camillus knives using only the tang stamp BUT that tang stamp is generally accepted as being used 1960-1976. The Delrin handles would date it post 1960 since Dupont didn't start producing Delrin (their trade name for acetal resin) until after they completed their Parkersburg WV plant in 1960.

One thing about old Camillus knives, they clean up pretty good unless they have been beaten to a pulp!

Vit- Is yours the stainless version?
I've had a few different camp type knives pass through my hands over the years. Most of them have now been traded.

No, it is carbon steel. Stainless version was made on a pattern 5779 and started circa 1987-88.Cicatriz wrote:Vit- Is yours the stainless version?

For me it's like a time machine. I take in hand a knife and see it exactly the same what it was 20-30-40 years ago
