camillus #72

The Camillus Cutlery Company was one of the oldest knife manufacturers in the United States with roots dating back to 1876. The company manufactured Camillus branded knives and was a prolific contractor for other knife brands up until its last days in 2007 when the company filed for bankruptcy.

Papa Bones wrote: Tue Mar 30, 2021 10:22 pm Added another Shortline 72 to my Camillus family today. It has the black stagged composite handles which was produced without a shield, and have just a little shrinkage. Of course it has the Camillus Short Line Tang Stamp, & has the Sabre Clip master blade, with a Coping Blade and Pen Clip Blade. All blades are tight, no wobble and all blades have near new sounding snap. The blades are full but do have light scratches, some spots, but show no signs of abusive or excessive sharpening. The blade wells were fairly clean, but since oiling the blades I do get some old darker oil from between the blades and springs. But I will flush it a couple of times and should be good. The bolsters have light scratches and one does have a couple of pin point dimples like it could have been dropped. Overall a good looking 72 for it's age. I am pleased with it.

Nice looking group. 72's are great workers and EDC's. I have a 72, a Craftsman 9494, and an Ulster 63 that I rotate regularly. They will last a lifetime, as long as they're given some TLC.

I have a few Ulsters, they don't seem very popular with collectors, however I have had lot's of good use from mine. I rally like my Ulster Scout knife.

I have found the Ulster 63 a little harder to find than the Camillus 72 and the Schrade 863, but a fine knife non the less. ::nod::

I proudly added this one today to my Camillus 72 Family. It is a Double Line Tang Stamp Camillus 72Y Yellow Jacket. It is like new in the box, and has the original Pamphlet, and sleeve. It has the yellow Delrin handles, with the Double Line Camillus Shield. It has the traditional set of blades for the Camillus 72 Carpenters whittler, and all are like knew and have never been put on a stone, and have the original grind and blade luster. On the mark side of the tang it has the double line Camillus tang stamp, but on the pile side it has the 1997 22LR6 tang stamp. I do know these have showed up before, and the usual discussion is.....Does it have the 22LR6 Clip Blade because they were short of the 72 stamped blades in 1997, or is this a later produced end of production before the doors were shut build? Either way, I'm glad to find it. Here are the photo's, all I did was wipe it down with a Chamois.
