You did a top job on the knife. It's hard to fit that shield. The ones with the round scout shield makes life easier.

Ed, you make a compelling argument to get some of those shrinky-dink #72s rehandled in ACSB. Outstanding work and thank you for sharing those unique creations with us!

Re: camillus #72
Well the other 72 is done. It fought me hard all the way. I hope everyone likes it. I went with stag. Check it out comments/constructive criticism welcome! The main blade had no snap so I had to weld the tang but it has plenty now.

Re: camillus #72
Thanks guys very much. The shield on the regular 72 was a push in type. It had a sharp point at the top and bottom and you would push or press it into the scale. Well I could have inlaid it like I did the Boy Scout knife but it would have took some of the stag out so I made a design decision and left it off. Thanks again for all the comments I do really appreciate them.

A little heavy on the toasting for my taste but other than that, another fine job. Hey, you asked.

Light on the toast gotcha! I did ask my friend I value your opinion. I am fairly good with constructive criticism. My one feeling is fairly tough. Thanks for letting me know.

Landersknives, It's really a great job .
However, I immediately had a question: is there really a bolster has an oscillation on the axis or is my vision deceptive?

hi
I used to like carving small totem poles and give them as gifts to my scout master's. Or back scratchers. Fun and easy. I'm being forced back into it by my young son. He likes to make walking sticks. Best thing I carved with it was a set of interlocking hearts for my wife.
Your stag one is amazing.
It's made a lot of chips, and still has a lot of life in it.
Yes it is like that one with the round shield. It's really a nice knife. My first knife was a stainless SAK, and the carbon steel blades on the 72 were a blessing, for an aspiring whittler.Landersknives wrote:Thanks eveled. Did yours look like this one below?

Sweet knife! Greg that sure is a beauty. Great knife and story eveled. Nothing like carving walking sticks but the hearts sound very cool also. Thanks for the compliment on the stag.

Re: camillus #72
Ed, that Scout version of the 72 is commonly referred to as a 1047. She is post 1976 when Camillus stopped pinning the handles and went to the formed post method of attaching handles (look inside the blade well for a circle) to sometime in the early/mid '80s. Looks to be in fair decent condition. Sounds like you've put her to work for her intended purpose.
