Camillus 4 Liner Twist Blade Scout?

The Camillus Cutlery Company was one of the oldest knife manufacturers in the United States with roots dating back to 1876. The company manufactured Camillus branded knives and was a prolific contractor for other knife brands up until its last days in 2007 when the company filed for bankruptcy.

Camillus 4 Liner Twist Blade Scout?

Post by carrmillus »

Does anyone have any information on or own one of these? This knife has bail twist out blades, also has finger pulls and can be opened and shut both ways. Big badge shield and old Rodgers type bone, traditional scout pattern, 3.75 inches long.

Sorry for the blurry photo and none with the blades open, it's from an old eBay listing and it's no longer viewable. This is from a photocopy.

Is that a ring turn?
You turn the ring and the blade opens?

I am sure!
I wasn't even aware that Camillus made a ring turn.
They must be rare as I have seen thousands of Camillus knives, between my collection, at shows and on line.
That is the first one I have seen!

That bone doesn't look like any Camillus bone I've seen (especially the worm grooves). The bone (and actually the shield also) look like Cattaraugus.

I suppose it could have been one Camillus contracted from another company.
It is pretty hard to tell what it is from that picture.

Can you post pics of the knives you have with the same type of bone?
I'm sorry, but I really can't make out much of the bone in that first pic.

dale, wish i could post pix, if i tried, they would probably put the whole tennessee valley authority on full alert! the other two knives i have with this type bone are a 3 3/8" sleeveboard whittler(1919-1941), it even has the same shield. the other is a 3 5/8" swell-center true whittler(1919-1941), but it has a bomb shield. i don't really know how to describe the bone, except that the color and jigging pattern looks identical to what is referred to as "roger's jigged bone" in some of the collector's guides.

I just purchased one like this on ebay. Super rare, I'd say. Mine is in the mail. I will post my own pics once it is here.

Mine is stamped Camillus as well.

From stamp I.D. page, I have surmised mine is probably from the 40's maybe? I cant wait to see it. Mine was listed for bidding, starting bid price was $399.00. Just to start...

Since there were no bids going, I sent the seller an offer they couldn't refuse. ::tu::

Tommy, I think that's an optical illusion. Looks like a 'D' ring to me. At least that's the way I'm seeing it. ::shrug::
