Early QUEEN CITY Jack

The Queen Cutlery Company manufactured knives in Titusville Pennsylvania for 96 years. The company opened its only factory there in 1919 and commenced to make some of the best US crafted cutlery you will find. Unfortunately, the Titusville manufacturing plant closed down in 2018.

Early QUEEN CITY Jack

Post by bdev »

Here's a Queen City jack that probably dates to the late 1930's. Has the QUEEN CITY block tang stamp and measures 3 3/8".
It's the predecessor to the Queen #69 Straight Jack pictured with it. For comparison, I've also posted a pic of its big brother, the Queen #18 Heavy Jack. The #18 measures 3 11/16".

Can you post a pic?

As a general rule, the script dates 1940-45. There were two script stamps. A large and a small.

Thank you, Bruno. I looked for a picture but couldn't find one.
I'll try tomorrow.
I believe it's similar to the stamp on the left.

bdev,
That old Queen City Jack has some pretty bone! What about the handles on this one? Is this jigging considered to be Winterbottom? Looks like the grooves have additional jig marks in them. ::shrug::

I'd love to see what the franksclassicknives.com site but I can't get it to open. :( My computer keeps showing an issue with a security certificate. ::shrug:: Even going through Google it shows the same warning.
I did find a very informative pdf at Queencutlery.com on the Winterbottom Bone factory in Egg Harbor. ::tu::

Very nice example. Full blades and the handles are in great shape. I find it amazing how well Queen made these knives. Of the examples I've seen, no matter how beat up they were, they still can be carried and used.
