Awhile back, there was some discussion about this on AAPK. I just spent the better part of the last hour trying to dig it up because I can't remember exactly what the answer was. All I can remember is that it came up when jerryd6818 posted his S&M Coles Wharncliffe Whittler, but I can't recall which thread it was in.

Would it have anything to do with the Coles branded Whittler? Perhaps named after the original?

Thank you.
I will have to work on that. That's my only current family picture at the moment.

Very nice S&M displays, Gary...you got some real classics there.

I used to have a lot more S&M knives, but I've had to thin the herd to pay other bills. Nevertheless, this is one that I'm not likely to ever part with. This old gal is a pre-Queen S&M Wharncliffe Half-Whittler with some sweet old bones. Still has great walk & talk, too. A very well-built old knife. Yup, this one's a keeper for sure.

Hi Q,
That is one fantastic looking knife and definitely a keeper.
I found what I believe is your knife in the No. 2 S&M catalog reprint. The handles might be a bit different but it looks like the same pattern. Pattern number 2156. S&M called the handles Imitation Stag.

It certainly looks like you nailed it, Bruno...pattern #2156...always good to know such details...I'll make a note of that in my files for future reference. Thanks for doing the research. ::tu::

Although these two aren't nearly as old as my Wharncliffe Half-Whittler, they are a couple other sweet Schatts that survived the cull and are also ones I consider keepers. They both have interior Mammoth Ivory handles. The the "Custom Shop Made" blade etch and the acorn shield on the Wharncliffe Trapper are fairly unique. I don't know how often S&M used an acorn shield on their knives, but based on my observations, it wasn't very often. The COA that came with that one says it is 1 of only 2 made.

The Teardrop/Bomber Jack isn't a pattern I collect, in fact, it's the only one I have like it in my entire collection. But, I just couldn't resist that gorgeous Mammoth Ivory...absolutely love that stuff.

This is the one recently sent to me by Tommy (carmillus). Ain't she a beaut? It was very generous of him and I just love it.

Risner had (and maybe still does have) these for $25. How can you pass that up? Cute and stag to boot, I just had to have one. Others may have shown one but this one is mine.

The New York tang stamp was used on the Premier Series. Here is a link to the Premier Series thread viewtopic.php?f=61&t=15483&hilit=premier

It was also the oldest Schatt & Morgan tang stamp 1897-1902
