Who's into S & M?

I suppose a knife forum is one of the few places to safely ask that question....anyway, I acquired this new-to-me but lightly used Rosewood handled Schatt & Morgan Heritage series through a trade with another forum member, I'm pleased with it, and I understand he's happy with his trade, as well. Comments welcome.

I am a long time admirer of S&M. In fact the very first purchase I ever made was of an S&M whittler. I once had a significant collection of newer S&Ms, since passed on to younger relatives. Whether by luck or good karma I was always pleased with them. I think you have a fine aquistion either as a collectible or a user. ::tu::

I think you'll be quite pleased with that one. I have some and with the exception of one, I like them very much. There are two of them that stand out for me.

This English Jack is one of them. #S&M 042 129 English Jack F&W Series 3 Edition 2 -2005

This Carpenters Whittler is the other. S&M Stag Carpenter's Whittler 033 448 Series XV 2005 - 1 of 600

The Heritage series was introduced in 2011.
Here's a link to Queen's catalog page with more info.

Own several S&M, never had a problem with any one of them. Those are very good knives. They are definitely on my Top 5.

S&M quality has been somewhat "hit or miss" for me; but, for pure eye candy, I do enjoy the stag/elk Keystone series.

Q: Eye candy is right. Those lovely knives activate my sweet tooth to an exceptional degree; probably at the risk of developing cutlery glucose issues. ::tu::

The OP knife is a handsome knife.
SteelMyHeart85420, you should be happy with that one.

Here's my one and only Schatt & Morgan. I bought it from a A. G. Russell catalog many years ago.
It's been a great knife. I used it on a good long interior woodworking and trim job soon after I bought it.
Great work knife.

I bought this very similar Keystone series Baby Sunfish quite by accident.

Love the double pulls on those Sunfish, Joe & Jerry; that's a nifty feature.

Jerry, I'm curious how you ended up getting that Sunfish "by accident"? Were you angling for something else, perhaps, when this one snagged your line? :o (I wish I had "accidents" like that!)

bdev: Nice collection you have there. And the best part is, it looks like you still have room in the back of the drawer to add a few more! ::super_happy::

It was going real reasonable on eBay ($50) and I snagged it quick, not paying a whole lot of attention to the pattern. My brain must have somehow popped out of gear.

Thanks. I had to build drawers in order to hold my collection. 5 drawers and counting (not all S&M's, Queen, mostly Keystones, and other brands.). The way I'm buying knives, I'll need to build a few more. ::tu::

Nice deal on that sunfish. Well worth what you paid.
Risner sells that knife for 120 bucks. Here's the link so you can get the specs on your knife.
Note: Risner states that it's 3" closed but I believe it should be 3 5/8".

It's a series 12 Keystone from 2002. I believe the keystone shield is Mother Of Pearl.

You are correct, the shield is MOP and the covers are Cape Water Buffalo horn. I remembered where it is and measured it. It is 3-5/8" closed. This is from the S&M 100th anniversary set. I have a few from the Keystone series.

It was just about two weeks ago that I posted my satisfaction with S&M. This may have brought about some bad luck. Recently I have been accumulating scout/camping multiblades. I received three from S&M. All were fine looking knives: excellent materials; excellent finish in most respects. Unfortunately the fit was disappointing in two of the knives. This was immediately apparent from their really excessive blade rub.
One knife, the best of the three, was adequately sharp out of the box. The other two were not. In fact one knife gave no evidence of having been sharpened at all. I have never received a blade like this before. Forget about cutting paper; it might be used as a butter knife providing the butter was soft. Final tally: one knife was excellent; two were very disappointing. These defects would not be acceptable on knives costing less than half of the S&Ms.

Speaking of "less than half," I ordered a scout knife from Bear MGC. To my surprise I was very pleased with the knife. F&F were very good. Sharpness was okay. If it had a bail, this is the knife I would choose to give to a scout.

Plastic surgical enhancements. ::barf:: ::barf:: If that's what I was looking for, I'd just go buy myself a blow-up doll and skip all the drama.

Edit: Oops. This thread is about Schatt & Morgan. This is the last one I bought. I like the lines. The fit and finish is good. But the main blade feels "gritty" when opening and closing it.
