Hey Folks,
Can anyone tell me if this H Boker & Son Lockback is Stag or Bone, and it's age as well?
I think around 1900, but I am not sure. Thanks in advance for those who reply.
Stag or Bone
Re: Stag or Bone
I agree bone. I may be wrong, but I do not think that stag is ever jigged like that knife.

Nice old knife. Looks like jigged bone to me. As for its age, Goins is a little vague because he has several listings for H. Boker & Co's Cutlery Germany. The marking is listed as 1869-1914 or 1919. The difference seems to be in how the secondary blades are marked, but yours being a single blade that's not possible to know.
Maybe a Boker expert will know more and let us know.

Bone handles. Goins dates that particular tang stamp circa. 1869 - 1914, while Mark Zakesky dates it from 1891 - 1944 in his Knifeworld article on Bokers. It is definitely post 1891 (steel tariff enacted) due to the presence a country of origin (Germany) stamped on the tang. Based on this info., my best guess is early 1900's. Hope this helps & NICE, old knife.
A pocket knife is still an intimate personal possession of the individual who carries it and consequently deserves the best of materials, finish and workmanship in its production. (Quoted from Boker's 1928 cutlery catalog).
