GEC 'Schrade' Auto

Post by kootenay joe »

Does anyone here have, or know about, an automatic knife made by GEC and branded as "Schrade" that was made soon after GEC began in 2006 ?
Please post any information or pictures you may have about this knife.

I bought my first auto from a dealer on AAPK, a red bone. Nice fit and finish, fires good but sometimes fails to lockup. I call it bounce back, maybe too strong spring or locking notch not deep enough, just not sure. Most of time they work well but not always.
The others I got from a company named Sharper Deals, I assume they were dealers for who ever had them built. Not sure who owns the Schrade trademark.

They are neat knives and I carry one on occasionally when I feel a bit frisky !

Yes, I believe it was early 2007 that I got the first one, as I recall some of the first ones in red bone were marked Prototype, later ones were not.
The brown bone was next, then stag and white bone. Not real sure but I think those were all the natural handle knives. Then they made some acrylic ones, 3 or 4, pretty handles but by then the runs were small and the prices went up considerably.

This issue was contracted by Stuart Taylor ( who bought the IP rights to Schrade in 2003. most of the Taylor Sxhrades were imports made in China . This auto was an exception since it is USA made. Owning the rights to Schrade allowed these to be ,marked Schrade. Most of these were purchased by Bob Chopra of Sharper deals and retailed through him. LT

How interesting-- I'd always wondered about how an auto manufactured by Great Eastern might manifest. That it was the "young" GEC on contract with Schrade is even cooler. The houndstooth shield is the clincher.

Thanks big monk. Production numbers shown in one of above links show that 'quite a few' of these were made. However i have not seen any show up for sale. They seem to have disappeared.
