User GECs

Thought I'd post up some of my pocket knives that know what a pocket is. From the left, 15 Beer Scout. Got this one in a trade, very handy. I've no need for a bottle opener but a flathead screwdriver I do. Just noticed this morning Collector Knives is selling replacement bails for a dollar fifty. Then a 14 from 2016. Great knife for slacks and is acceptable for carry on domestic flights in Canada. Then a 77 in great stag. It was a 2nd due to the stag being too thin by the well and leaving a bit of brass exposed. I like that as otherwise it would not have become a user. 79 workhorse. Pinchable perfection. 85 Cocobolo. Quite possibly my most carried GEC. 48 Weasel. Good size that disappears in pocket. 77 Cocobolo. As satisfying as the 85.
With the exception of the 85 all of these were 2nd hand and carried fairly minimally by the original owner. I probably prefer paying 1/2 to 2/3 of selling price to have something I can use. Conversely, I won't use a new knife that I feel is collectible.
Love to see some more users.

Joe, since I've retired, I don't do that much cutting either in everyday life. I have knives I whittle with but a Camillus 72 in my pocket does all the cutting I need and that's not much.

I likely have 60 knive in the user category, half GEC. I love carrying different knives in my pocket. At work, my Leatherman tti does most of the cutting. Here's some more. The bone 73 was amongst my first handful of GECs, the 92 begged to be used.

Horn 57 and the 36eo micarta came together. 36 makes for a full watch pocket.

Couple beagles and a 14 spear. All showed up with minimal wear but no tubes which is a greenlight for pocket carry. Love the mini dogleg, looking forward to the inevitable 18 clip blades.

Last couple, 66 Bullwinkle in natural stag and 73 in bocote.

Except the first rwo, these were either used or missing tubes so I got decent deals on them all.

Decided to pull my oldest 56 and 66 out for some pocket time. Here is the 56.

I felt it needed a little polish. Few minutes later...

66 spruced up nicely as well. This was my very first GEC I ever purchased back in March 2010. Price then was $76.99.

I think they are looking great and ready for the next decade.

Rob i have never seen anyone admit to having so many new knives in an EDC rotation and yours are all GEC. You set a good example. These knives were made to be strong and sharp so that they can be effectively used and last a century and longer. Many if not most GEC collectors are afraid to get any marks/scuffs on their knives so never use them.
I think it is our responsibility to use 1 or more of our GEC's so that the cutlers who build them know that their efforts to make a great tool are being appreciated.

A popular pattern for carrying, I think. 2 of them have made it to my EDC box (though I admit to having safe queens of both). The 2017 AAPK forum knife in particular has proven to be a favorite carry. I think a clip/nice broad sheepsfoot blade combination in a slim, watch-pocket-friendly frame is underappreciated and very useful.

85 SFO, bought new. Great knife with class.

73 ebony traded for used and one of my favorite users. I love the dark ebony and hotdog shield, such a classic looking knife. Hard snap too, it's just the perfect trapper for me.
IMG_4735.JPG
Stag 81 bought new. Fat stag which I don't care for much but these are very desirable and my favorite gec pattern. In hindsight I wish I would have bought the other one and this one and kept both minty. I still enjoy it though.
IMG_4094.JPG
Blackwood 81 bought used as my second gec, I sharpened it like an amateur in my early sharpening days, went at too low of an angle and removed a bunch of steel from the blades. ::facepalm::
IMG_4087.JPG
Tidioute 81 bought new, probably my favorite gec user. This one looks better the more I use it, patina suits the handle color very well.
IMG_1426.JPG
Ebony 66 bought new. This one is a workhorse.
IMG_2946.JPG
Hemlock 66 bought used for forty bucks from a kind fellow. Another highly favored user and workhorse.

Thanks farside.

This one is still new but I bought it specifically to be a long term edc. So far it's right with with the 81 stocks and 73 as my favorite gec's to carry. I'm starting to get rid of extraneous user knives and just keep the users that I really use, makes them more enjoyable.
