I got a surprise when I went to the mailbox today. My stag Cripple Creek from Frank was there. I thought it would be tomorrow at the earliest. It is my first CC ever and I love it. The stag is fantastic, the blades are centered, love the blade etching and unique tang stamps, and the buffalo shield just tops it off. I thought I was done buying the 14's, but after Matt_WY posted the cover with the Canvas Micarta 14, I may not be done yet. I have never had a Micarta knife before. I also see that there is a Desert Ironwood one yet to drop, and I really love my only DI knife, the Whaler, that I have. So, I may have to call him and see if I can get a Micarta and/or Desert Ironwwod one. If any of you hear a loud scream, it will be my wallet!

I love the handles, the shields, the blade etches, the unique tang stamps, the polished blades, the satin blades, the single blades, the 2-blades, the unique tubes, the different stories, the Tidioute knives, the Northfield knives, the SFO knives, and the regular run knives. To put it simply, I love all of the GEC #14 Boy's Knives!

Thanks, Rick. I was very pleased.

Lyle, I just started collecting earlier this year so I unfortunately don't have any from 2016. What is the difference between the 2016 and the 2018 versions? Were there as many choices in 2016? Thanks.

I've not counted. Bill paid my participation with with 25 LC #14s etched and packaged as my label, and I was able to buy 20 extras at the end. 45 total LC labeled knives. That's my picture at two years old on all GEC labeled '16s and my stories in the tubes, I think the Tidioute '18s also. Not sure though. It was the greatest total of any production GEC had ever made.

I know Charlie had several 14 barlows.

The late Derrick Bohn had several choices .

The late Bob Andrews had a rotten banana, that's all I know.

It would be in GEC's totals for '16.

Larry,

2016 was the first run of #14's and forecasting their popularity was impossible so there weren't near as many choices in 2016. After that run the folks at GEC, Lyle, and the other dealers had a better idea of their popularity so they made a lot more on the second run. The primary difference is that all of the 2016's had Spear blades.

Here's a #14 TC Barlow from 2016.

Got lucky last week when Kniveshipfree let me know this was going on sale. My fist time getting one of these. My wife is eyeing this, wish I had bought several or at least one more.

Lyle, you were a cute kid at two and I really liked the story. How many different stories have you told?

Thanks, Rick. It seems like everybody won on this second round of 14's. I haven't gotten in on a TC Barlow yet, but hopefully I will get lucky at some point.

The 2 blade Stag #14 have been out for about 2 weeks now ? So i was surprised to find one with very nice Stag still available at "Risner's". It has about the thinnest Stag i have seen on a modern knife. I think this is outstanding.
Not many Stag examples have been posted here. Is demand for the 14's waning ? Did most of the GEC 'regulars' here not get a Stag #14 ?

Looks like a nice one kj. I was surprised that one stuck around as it did. The Northfield stags have been very nice to my eyes and I think have been well received. The stag Cripple Creeks have been hit and miss by what I gave seen, more miss than hit perhaps but with some bullseyes as well. My Lick Creek arrived today! Here's some pucks with my stag 14. I wonder why there has been no stag 15s. ::hmm::

Rob your Stag 14 is a good one and the polished bone example is also very attractive. Usually Stag handled GEC's get snapped up faster than other handle options but this has not been the case with the 14's. Maybe people were 'saturated' with other 14's by the time the Stag ones were released ?
I would like to hear the opinion of other GEC collectors on the Stag 14's.

I expect the stag on these is pretty good. They just bought 50-60 thousand pieces of older stag earlier in the year.

Here are 3 recent #14's along with a 77 Barlow from 2015 and Eric's Jack.
The longer bolster on the Barlow 14's and lack of caps makes these Barlows look quite distinct from the Regular Jack #14's.

Nice lineup there kj. So many cool 14 variants, all have their own character. I need some time to get my own group photo together.

Hey Roland,

I remember awhile back that you had asked where you could get a TC #14. Nice to see that you snagged not one, but two! ::tu:: They look great!
