Who knows the story behind the ivory #46?
Who knows the story behind the ivory #46?
How many did they make? What year? Was it a club knife? I have seen pictures of a few of them. Post up some pics if you have some. Here is a picture I found.

I don't know the history but it seems like Roland said his 2012 E Ivory was 1of only 4 made. Looks like a regular Northfield , not any kind of club knife
I think in those days GEC would make a run with several exotic handles in very limited numbers.

You can go to the GEC website and see how many of each handle material were made for every year in which the 46 was made.
What is the year of the knife you posted ?
LSS, are you looking for one to buy ? What do you see as 'market value' ?

Re: Who knows the story behind the ivory #46?
I just went to GEC website. Things have changed i think. I previously was able to get a list of all knives made in a year with a breakdown by pattern and how many with each handle material. However this seems to have been replaced by just pictures of the knives made, no numbers are there now.
My ivory #46 is a 2011 yet GEC now shows no ivory Whalers.
Perhaps someone more familiar with GEC website can find the production numbers ?

When Roland (kootenay joe) rolls out some of those really special knives, it's meant to be more of a museum thing and less of a swap meet. The man has some knives none of us will ever see in person, I reckon.

When i die the local second hand store will get a huge pile of good knives to put in his "Old Cutlery" bin. My children will not invest any time trying to see what is there.

Downloading the production numbers has given me lots to study while travelling for work. Beats working. So 5 interior, 1 bark.

Just go to GEC home page, click information near top left and scroll down to production totals. It used to be elsewhere on the page but they reorganized. I keep all the totals stored on my phone.

Hunks of Ivory big enough to make the #46 probably make that knife really heavy. Love it!
I would like to see one of the Snakewood ones too.

Re: Who knows the story behind the ivory #46?
The 46 pattern was made in 2011 and 2013. In 2011 there were 5 with elephant ivory and none with mammoth. In 2013 there were none made with elephant or mammoth ivory.
The 45 pattern was made only in 2012. There were 10 elephant ivory and 16 with mammoth ivory.
I believe these are the total numbers for this large Toenail pattern with ivory/mammoth.
