Welcome to the world of collecting where the demand far exceeds the supply. I don’t keep GECs as collector pieces, unused, waiting for value increase. I buy Tidioute in general for that reason. Paying retail. The only Northfield I have is the #14 Lick Creek Boys Knife, two blade, bone. It’s also a user. Probably my favorite all-around Great Eastern Cutlery knife.
I think the market will settle out.

Quote TB: " sellers expecting astronomical starting points thanks to auctions like these."
Not all sellers. Knife collectors often sell them at break-even or just a little more.

This Northwoods Michigan Jack w/ Green Camel bone went off 380 last night. I didn’t even try once it got over 200. There is another one coming up in a day or so on eBay.
This one is beautiful and would be worth buying, at the right price.

Mark I had been watching that one all week and thought maybe I could pounce on it at the very end for a bargain then saw on Sunday that there were 49 watchers.

Greg, I don’t know how many of those they made but that one went ballistic. Going to keep an eye on the other one coming up, we’ll see if it goes up like this one or not.

That's some gorgeous stag on that 57. A fine addition to any collection. Astronomical price for an exceptional knife.
Very high on the Michigan Jack, it's tempting to list at prices like that

Here is one to watch. You rarely see an American Whittler #38 Grinling SFO by Roy. Only 27 pieces made.
Bid REALLY HIGH and early folks

How 'bout a little contest ? Guess final selling price of the above #38 whittler, ending in 6 days.
My guess: $406.83
I had a #38 Grinling Whittler which i sold a couple of years ago and broke even on the deal !

That's a pretty good bid. I will go a little over that for $414.55.

GEC knives are like the Stock Market: wish i knew then what i know now. Then i could have bought the ones that go for multiples.

That TC was a very limited acces handle material. I have never seen another up for sale. A 1 of 15 CC barlow, clip point to boot. I think it would have sold with a BIN in excess of 600.
And I think that 38 Grinling whittler is going to go for around $580.

My goodness that whittler price makes me wonder what my mammoth double pull sunfish prototype might be worth

Greg, is there a picture posted of: "my mammoth double pull sunfish prototype" ?
I am thinking this is a 36 pattern ? Would like to see it.

Oh My ! What a special knife ! It has to be your BEST GEC.
Do you know how many 36's there are with ivory or mammoth ? I think it is an exclusive 'club'.

There's an identical knife currently on the fleabay for around $180...albeit with days to go and over 40 watchers.

That 38 went for $819. ! I recognize the seller's avatar, he's a stand up good guy, good for him. Honest auction and some bidding madness.
