Help with Unusual #12
Help with Unusual #12
Howdy folks! Looking for any info on this #121111 I just got off ebay. I've been collecting 12s since 2010 but this one has me stumped. It has a mirror polished Tidioute stamped blade without etch ,birdseye maple scales and NORTHFIELD bolsters. Never seen another one like it.

Hey pappy. Welcome to AAPK.
If you go look at the 2011 Production Totals PDF, GEC didn't make a 121111 with birdseye maple handles. Soooo I'm going to say it's a rehandle. Beautiful wood.

Hi Jerry, Yeah when I first saw it rehandle was my thought too. But what really got me was the Tidioute blade with Northfield bolsters. My second thought was maybe unmarked proto or maybe an employee made it as a personal knife? Guess I should ask GEC. Seller didn't know much about it. Whatever it is it's beautiful and was done by somebody who knew what they were doing and I'm tickled to death to own it. Toothpicks are my favorite pattern and I've owned a LOT of them (still do) and the GECs are the best!

to AAPK, pappy!
That is a pretty sweet 'pick you've got there. Didn't GEC run a lot of protos back in 2011? Even if it's a rehandle or cobbled, it sure is a unique and attractive knife!

I doubt it's factory, but it's super nice regardless.
