TC Barlow

Postby Drukai » Tue Mar 28, 2017 3:49 am

Anyone know if they will be making more of the TC's with the Spey main..A new Day or a Days Work...I think? Or should I just tryn hit the secondary market? Was hoping to see some TC Barlows at the Badger Club knife show this past weekend but no luck. But I did pick up a beautiful Cripple Creek Barlow in strawberry bone...was actually surprised didn't see that much GEC compared to Schatt&Morgan and Queen, maybe that's normal at knife shows. First show I have been to since I have been collecting Traditionals..

I only saw a couple of random GEC's at the Badger show and definitely no TC Barlows. They are a highly sought after knife and bring big money on the secondary market when they pop up. I don't know of any plans to make more anytime soon, but ya never know...

IIRC Charlie Campagna (goes by "upnorth" on AAPK I believe) is the only one with the rights to SFO (Special Factory Order) the #14 and #15 TC Barlows from GEC. So between the fact that GEC just ran off some 14s and 15s in 2016 and that Charlie already SFO'd two runs (one of each frame) during that time, we might be waiting a while for more TCs of any kind.

I've already set aside money for spearpoint TCs no matter when they might run. Spey master could be the only TC I don't reflexively buy, but I'm always down for a sheepsfoot or spearpoint Barlow from just about anybody.

Charlie's next TC Barlow run will be the sheepfoot blade, and I believe it will have a crescent nail nick. ::hmm::

TC stands for Tidioute Cutlery and preceeded the name Tom's Choice which refers to the clip point blade style. Just FYI as this is a common misconception. ::shrug::

I'm sure Charlie's got one or two of each tucked away for hisself and a fair pile of money from the rest of us for snapping up his SFOs every single time. ::rotflol::

The best bet for those would be the secondary market, but even now those older TCs are going for twice (or more) original retail. The little #14 Lick Creek Barlows at one point were regularly fetching $300 and still pop for $225-250 almost every time one shows up. It's kind of a crazy market. I've been intent on getting TCs whenever available and to date I just have one: The jigged chestnut single-clip #15 Charlie commissioned last year.

I'm dead-set on getting a spearpoint TC and slowly acclimating myself to the sticker shock I know I'm gonna eventually have. ::paranoid::

This year Charlie did a run of jacks, the Diamond Jack 2017 is quite a looker. I just got one a couple days ago. I will post it for you tomorrow. It is a great looking knife, even without a swedge! ::nod::

I really, really like the jigging of this bone! ::drool::
It has to be one of my favorite current jigging patterns! Charlie told me this was done in house at GEC.
GEC has obviously stepped up their game, also kudos on the snap; even though the blade has half stops the spring is not so strong it wants to rip the knife out of your hands when you open or close it. A huge improvement from many of their "bear trap springs" in my opinion! ::tu::

I forgot, I do have a couple TC Barlows, I might as well post them here to.
The top one is the Ancient Barlow and the one below it is Stew's Blade.
The knife is dedicated to Charlie's father-in-law, a World War II veteran and amputee.
The Ancient Barlow is in my EDC rotation and I am carrying it today. I really like the blade shape!

Very nice Dale! ::tu:: The 48 Diamond Jacks are a favorite of mine; nice and slim with a very useful blade style on top of the fact that they are a classic! (based on the Schrade 292, or was it the 294?) ::shrug::

Thanks for posting those Barlows, Dale, and I am glad you are enjoying the Diamond Jack!
I am carrying one as we speak! I touched up the edge, and it's a treat to use.
Since this is a Barlow thread, allow me to show off my latest!
