Travis, the colors in your 48 are fantastic. Are they computer enhanced ? or is that how it looks in person ?

Re: Mail Call, Post Your New GECs.
I was 'just looking' at the GEC knives in the AAPK store and i saw a rather nice stag 4 1/4" Equal End Stock knife, 538308. The price was reasonable enough but it did say "or best offer" so i sent a reasonable offer and the kind seller "Gary" accepted.
I like the early GEC's because there was more variety of pattern 'tweaks' and handle types. Many of the early knives are the more complex patterns, more demanding of the cutler's ability.
Here is this knife, seller's pics. I just bought it today, a good day to buy a knife.

Thanks Greg & DL. Yes the bolster to bolster stag is why i bought it. Some of the best GEC stag is on the early knives.

Oregon Knife Collectors Association knife show find. There it was at Gunstock Jacks table and Barry told me he had it custom covered, very nice popcorn black and brown and oatmeal off white stag. Not factory antler. Also a custom shield. Anyhoo, thanks Barry, fabulous piece, been looking for the right 48 with a good Wharn. If this had been sold online at auction it would have been twice the price.

72 with the pen blade. Very useful knife with the small and large blades. Bone is pretty nice as well.

J1890, if you could only have one knife, that one just might be it. Congrats.

Thank you, Ivoryman. I am mighty happy with that ebony 4-blade. GEC did top notch work on that ol' boy.

I'm happy with the snap. It is not nearly as strong as a Case Tested XX C61050 Cokebottle for example, but it does snap closed with some noise.gsmith7158 wrote:Jerry mine had pretty good snap on it. How is yours?

Re: Mail Call, Post Your New GECs.
Here is a very nice 431118 with orange camel bone handles which i recently won on ebay for $127. I think this is close to the original price, i.e. not all GEC's sell high on the secondary market.
Of all the single blade knives that GEC has made i think the 4 1/4" #43 is the best one for a user knife. It is big enough but not too big. It's a Great knife !
I'm showing it here with my cocobolo 43. As attractive as the orange camel bone is, the cocobolo makes it look even more classy.

Nice examples Roland. I too believe the 43 to be a great knife. They also had some of the nicest stag GEC has done in a long time.

Thanks Paul. I will look for a stag one. I suspect they are hard to find because owners are keeping them. Great pattern, best stag, why sell it ?
