Very good looking knife John. I bet the elk will look even better after much handling.

Got these two in this week. These are the first ones I've bought in a while, been spendin' money elsewhere.

Tim, if I were ever to get rid of my GECs (not a lot of them to start with) the 33 would be one of a handful that would be the last to go.

Ivoryman, i have a Northwoods Bear Lake with giraffe bone on it's way. I would like to know your impression of this knife.
Other Northwoods knives have really grabbed my attention when pics first released. This one not so much, but i went ahead anyway hoping that i will be pleasantly surprised when i have it in hand.

Re: Mail Call, Post Your New GECs.
I like it. It's the size for me and fits my hand. Like the bare head, smooth bone, well finished all around, tight lock up, great walk and talk without breaking nails, centered perfect, transitions perfect, came shaving sharp, pinches open so you don't even need the long pull. Nice bone color. Nothing to not like unless the size is a problem for you. I like steel liners and pins, round bolsters, blade angle from handle. Immediately became one of my favorite Northwoods or GEC hands down.

Re: Mail Call, Post Your New GECs.
I bought these 2 Ben Hogans and wasn't happy with them. The acrylics were so dark it was hard to see any color in them, and the one had a spear blade. I don't have anything against spear blades in general but I don't like them on the Ben Hogan.

I sent them both to Herman Williams, who re-ground the spear blade and re-handled both of them, one in Ram's Horn and the other in Crimson Fire Oak carved bone.

Thought they looked pretty good as they came. They look fabulous now though. Your knife mechanic is very good.

Re: Mail Call, Post Your New GECs.
Thanks for the good words...my knife mechanic will appreciate them as well. Herman was Schrade's in house customizer for 24 years prior to their bankruptcy in 2004 and at 80 years young is still turning out some darn nice knives. Here is another #65 he did for me. The primitive bone just didn't do it for me.Ivoryman wrote:Thought they looked pretty good as they came. They look fabulous now though. Your knife mechanic is very good.

All three top notch looking knives. Great custom work, they look like one-of-a-kind pieces instead of production runs. Bravo.

Re: Mail Call, Post Your New GECs.
Here is the just released Northwoods, a 3 9/16" Barehead Sleeveboard Jack with giraffe bone handles.
I have been buying one of each new Northwoods knives since Derrick took over this brand name and usually choose ivory or mammoth for handles.
At first i decided to not buy one of the new "Bear Lake" Northwoods. It didn't look that different from other Northwoods to justify the nearly $200 cost.
But, then i had a change of heart and i'm glad i did. This time i chose giraffe bone, a first for me, and it looks a lot like mammoth ivory.
Best of all is a great in hand feel. I like the fairly narrow handle, plenty to hold on to but not bulky at all. Rock solid when fully open and sharp enough to shave.
I like it more each day.

Don't think you can go wrong with a Northwoods. Great Giraffe on that one and the pattern impresses me more and more. Congrats. I will carry mine much more than the bigger Northwoods for sure. Great sleek handle shape, pinchable. Great piece IMO.
