Where's the Rendezvous? Would have loved checking it out. Everything you nabbed is sweeeeeeeeeeet, all beauties, eye candy. Congrats and I would love to know what they went for at something like that, but I wouldn't ask.JohnR wrote:Some special knives I picked up at the Rendezvous.

At the GEC factory in Titusville PA. They have it every August and make special knives for it, the orange bone 15 and emerald bone 81 are both 1 of 9 made, they sell pretty close to what the original run sold for.Ivoryman wrote:Where's the Rendezvous? Travis, you have a very handsome knife. I especially like the lower photo which sets it off very well indeed.

Travis, I really like that top picture with the flowers.
Re: Mail Call, Post Your New GECs.
Got this group from Scott. The small little black handled one marked Crown Cultery, Czechoslovak. I know nothing about it but like the tang stamp origin. The Goat Brand is an India company. I like them both as they are common knives that the average Joe would buy and use. The Colonial is the same type of knife and is the yapa that Scott always throws in. And I just liked the bone/antler/ivory zipper pull. Thanks Scott

Neat ! DL, i am similar in that i like almost any well made knife that still works. I find them just as interesting as the expensive minty collectibles we usually post.

Got this Amherst knife off of BF. Amherst was a company from Amherst Ohio. The owner of the Company was an importer and seller of fossilized mamoth ivory and sambar stag and other things used in knife scales. He says that the knife is totally USA made and only the scales were imported. But alas, did not make it as a manufacturer. It is a large trapper measuring 4 in closed. No tang mark just a blade etch. The scales are mamoth ivory. Seems like a very solid knife.

Oops, posted this in the wrong mail call. I don't know how to move it but if one of the ad men would like to I would appreciate it. Sorry!

Amherst Cutlery: unfinished knives from China, then hafted by Pappy of Amherst Cutlery with some of his fine handle material. This was the outcome of a scam pulled on BF about 10 or so years ago. The knives were well made, true quality, but not a real custom which is how they were presented by 'Pappy'.

Re: Mail Call, Post Your New GECs.
KJ, I read where he denied that but I have also read of horrible customer service and not always being honest so I have no reason to not believe it. It is a solid knife. And the scales are great looking. And I bought it cause I liked it so I am good. Not the fantastic ivory on the knife I bought from you but good looking non the less. Thanks for sharing.

Re: Mail Call, Post Your New GECs.
DL, secretive contracting out has been practiced by most knife manufacturing companies in USA, Britain & Europe for well over 100 years. Many of the vintage knives we collect were not entirely made by the manufacturer named on the tang.
Whether it be a modern or vintage knife, it is fun to try 'sleuth out' who made what, while still collecting the knives that speak to you. I had a very nice Amherst Cutlery knife but my eldest daughter liked it so much that it is now with her in Tanzania.

Re: Mail Call, Post Your New GECs.
Greg, is that a satin finish on the Gunstock blades ?
I paid for a satin finish Northfield jigged bone Gunstock from CK over a week ago but it has not yet been shipped. Mike must be having trouble getting the satin finished knives from GEC ?

Re: Mail Call, Post Your New GECs.
Roland I would guess that is the problem. Mine is a polished finish that came from CK so the satins must not be there yet.kootenay joe wrote:Greg, is that a satin finish on the Gunstock blades ?

Re: Mail Call, Post Your New GECs.
" Mine is a polished finish", it is very attractive, not mirror shiny which is what i thought the polished ones would have. I have not seen a satin finish Gunstock yet to see how it compares.
