As a matter of fact today the answer is yes.

Thanks!!! JohnIvoryman wrote:You'll never regret having that Viper around. Niiiiiiiiice.
Dealer called 'em an 8. After a couple drops of Liquid Bearings, I'd say the pull is more like a 7 on the spear and a 6.5 on the clip.313 Mike wrote:That is a nice one Tony, like the shield too. How are the pulls? Nail breakers?
Thanks for the break down Tony, a big stout knife is bound to have stout springs, only right.Tsar Bomba wrote:Dealer called 'em an 8. If you've ever wrassled open a late model NOS Camillus #27 with dried-out oil and unused backsprings you'd know what I consider a 10 in pull. 8 would be something like my Boker whittler with two springs under the main - the pull sometimes "surprises" ya. The GEC springs are big and the blades are stout but all that leverage from such a long blade makes the pull fairly easy on both sides.
This knife is not for close-in detail work, though. It's well over 4" long and has two bona fide master blades. It's a medium-heavy duty workin' slipjoint. Sure does look nice though.
T, how does this compare in size to the 23?Tsar Bomba wrote:Bought an extra oily creek bone #54 to add to the EDC pile, and glad I did. What a hunk of knife, a perfect LFP companion. Carried it today, fantastic slicer and an ideal worry stone. Looking forward to the M&G moose on this frame.

No doubt. It's not for someone with small hands or small cutting jobs, I think. It made fast work of my steak & eggs this morning though.313 Mike wrote:Thanks for the break down Tony, a big stout knife is bound to have stout springs, only right.
I've never had a 23 in hand but according to the GEC specs it's 1/8th inch longer than the 54. I imagine it's also wider because it's a trapper pattern.J1890 wrote:T, how does this compare in size to the 23?Tsar Bomba wrote:Bought an extra oily creek bone #54 to add to the EDC pile, and glad I did. I had one of those in bone handle. Nice knife, you will not be disappointed.Tsar Bomba wrote: Just noticed that one of the dealers has the ebony 23 available with that drop-point skinner blade and a pen/small spear secondary. I've got some pondering to do...
Iman, that orange is sweet. Yet another from a great collection.Ivoryman wrote:Orange Tidioute 73
The key is proper load distribution. You've gotta put the sunfish on one side, the trapper on the other, and the 54 in the back pocket. *J1890 wrote:I'm going to tote these three. I'll probably be leaning to one side as I walk.
Thanks bud, great looking one on the left, what is that a Yankee Jack 77? Love the curve of the spine on that spear. Great color on all those, but the lefty is my kind of style.J1890 wrote:Iman, that orange is sweet. Yet another from a great collection.Ivoryman wrote:Orange Tidioute 73
After a long week at work, I'm going a little bananas I think I'll shop for a new knife

Much appreciated, I-Man. I think GEC has found yet another lifelong fan of their oily creek bone. Yesterday was the first time I hadn't carried the knife since I got it.Ivoryman wrote:That is some good looking two tone bone Bomba.
Yup, 77. I was lucky enough to get one and it is used often. I have to say that it is one of my favorites.Ivoryman wrote:Thanks bud, great looking one on the left, what is that a Yankee Jack 77? That is some good looking two tone bone Bomba.
Thanks Ivoryman. They certainly are a hard pattern not to like. My very first GEC was a 25 Easy Open with a Sheepsfoot blade that I bought in 2009. Several have come and gone from my collection for various reasons but I have never grown tired of the pattern.Ivoryman wrote:Beauty Railsplitter, glad to hear you like it. I nabbed a Goldenrod 25 Barlow Spear blade and never regretted it for a second. Sweeeeeeeeeet knives.
