The GECs that have made it into my EDC rotation thus far:

The AAPK #74 pictured here is a factory second with no blemishes that I could find which was purchased specifically for EDC duty. I love carrying this knife.

I'm breaking in 72 with Frontier Bone handles, I'm sure it do well....

Man some gorgeous knives being displayed above, makes me want them all.

I'm leaving the house in a few and gonna make it a GEC day. Couldn't decide on a drop point or clip blade, good thing pants come with multiple pockets.
Would love to strap the hatchet to my belt as well but may not be looked upon favorably by others in town.

Bought an extra oily creek bone #54 to add to the EDC pile, and glad I did. What a hunk of knife, a perfect LFP companion. Carried it today, fantastic slicer and an ideal worry stone. Looking forward to the M&G moose on this frame.

Dealer called 'em an 8. After a couple drops of Liquid Bearings, I'd say the pull is more like a 7 on the spear and a 6.5 on the clip.

If you've ever wrassled open a late model NOS Camillus #27 with dried-out oil and unused backsprings you'd know what I consider a 10 in pull. 8 would be something like my Boker whittler with two springs under the main - the pull sometimes "surprises" ya. The GEC springs are big and the blades are stout but all that leverage from such a long blade makes the pull fairly easy on both sides.

This knife is not for close-in detail work, though. It's well over 4" long and has two bona fide master blades. It's a medium-heavy duty workin' slipjoint. Sure does look nice though.

No doubt. It's not for someone with small hands or small cutting jobs, I think. It made fast work of my steak & eggs this morning though.

T, how does this compare in size to the 23?

I've never had a 23 in hand but according to the GEC specs it's 1/8th inch longer than the 54. I imagine it's also wider because it's a trapper pattern.

Just noticed that one of the dealers has the ebony 23 available with that drop-point skinner blade and a pen/small spear secondary. I've got some pondering to do...
