300 series Buck

Post by Beag1eGal »

Ok, sorry if this has been answered a million times. I have tried looking. Some sights dispute time line,
What years did Schrade make the 301's and 303's?
Where does the 301& 303 with 'Buck made in USA' on front tang and nothing else anywhere, no model number front or back, no Buck on reverse secondary blades fall? What year(s)
I am trying to pin one down to approximately 1966-1968
For the years my husband was in Vietnam
Thank you and I apologize for y'all having to repeat this.

Schrade made the first Buck 301s in 1966. Buck placed the last order for 301s with Schrade early in 1971 then shifted the contract to Camillus. 1966 301s are the only 301s made by Schrade or Camillus with grooved bolsters. The rest of the Schrade made 301s can be separated from Camillus production by Camillus' exposed blade pivot pins. Camillus' pins are polished flush with the bolsters but they are visible. Schrade's blade pivot pins do not extend through the bolsters. Camillus was the first to stamp 301 on the tang's pile or reverse side but early Camillus 301s did not have the model number stamp so its absence does not reliably identify Schrade manufacture. All Schrade 301s have a three line stamp on the master blade's mark side tang, BUCK / MADE IN / USA. All I know that might help eliminate 1969 to 1971 Schrade production is that BUCK was added to the pile side of the secondary blades but I do not know when Schrade added that stamp.

There are three versions of the Schrade 301 and all have handle pins with the tang stamp "BUCK/Made in USA" ; none of them had a model number: 1966-1967 included two of those variations, one with grooved bolsters and one without; 1966-1971 had the tang stamp on the master blade and "BUCK" stamped on the secondary blades.

The Schrade 303 was similar to the 301. One variation from 1968-1971 had the master blade stamped "BUCK/Made in USA" and the other variation from 1968-1972 had the same master blade stamp with the addition of "BUCK" stamped on the secondary blades. Neither of these had a model number.
